  • combine container UI question

I recently started playing again and can't find out how to make use of the new UI in the trade skill containers. I appears to allow me to search for recipes, but none are ever founds. Apparently, without a recipe, you can't combine unless you use the Expermental mode, which is the old UI I remember from before.

Can someone point me to an FAQ or other document that describes this UI? I've searched on several sites and haven't found anything yet.

    Thanks!

What are you using as search criteria? All of the recipies are not in there but a lot are so you should find some.

Recipes have an additional tag called "learnable".
Some recipes are given to you automatically - and you already know them.
Some recipes you have to learn by successfully making the combine in experimental mode.
Some recipes you cant learn at all.

And once you have learned it, it should show up.

Note... preseeing Enter does NOT start the search, you must click on the actual search button.

What what what!? (Yes, that's Kyle's Mom).

Pressing enter SHOULD start the search, provided the Search button is enabled (note that it starts off disabled for a short time), and provided you've entered something in the text bar.

Sigh, now I gotta go check that.

It's never worked for me. I tried it several times, after intentionally waiting for the Search button to un-grey. I haven't tried it recently though, on the assumption that it wasn't meant to work. Ahhh, assumptions...

Seems to work fine for me now. I'm now vaguely remembering that it didn't always do so. I probably fixed it a while back and stealthed it in.

Hit enter to your heart's content (but only when the search button is "up").

There are several ways to institute a search. You can type in a name or part of a name of a known item/recipe, then hit search. You can play with the trivial numbers shown, for example put in a higher starting trivial and/or ending trivial, then hit search.

I'm assuming if you just hit search without changing one of the fields, there are too many possible recipes so it won't show you anything.

About using ENTER to search: When the new UI came out, you couldn't search using ENTER. I remember that being called a bug (or perhaps an oversight) when the UI first went live. Players were pretty vocal about it, and it was fixed in a patch after that. You can now use ENTER to start a search if the search button isn't greyed out.

Kyros' history is my understanding of it as well. The Enter key works for me, though you do have to wait for the "Search" button to ungrey first (which gets annoying if you open and close a lot though I can understand not wanting the servers to get spammed with recipe searchs&requests).

Mouse = annoying, frustrating, time-consuming but simple input device. I'll take a keyboard over a mouse anyday, and the ability to do EQ actions via the keyboard (through shortcut keys or slash commands) is hugely appreciated. The bazaar window and the Tradeskill UI are my two least favorite windows, and the reason essentially boils down to having to use a mouse primarily along with keyboard to manipulate them rather than being able to do it with the keyboard alone (though even the mouse alone would be better that the intermingling).

Is there a reason for the delay in having the search button enabled? If it's just to keep constant recipe searches from spamming the servers, couldn't those recipes be stored in the client after the first search. That way subsequent UI opennings will have the search button enabled right away.

On a side note, is it possible to modify the xml code for the tradeskill ui to include a destroy button and/or also display your base (unmodified) skill next to the modified skill? Does anyone have a nice custom UI for the tradeskill window?
