  • Staff of the Observers - why so expensive?

    Hello everyone!

I have just come back to playing EQ after a break of about a year. I have started playing my Mage again, got her up to level 38 now and have decided to sell a few of the items that have been sitting on her this past year.

I went to the bazaar and was setting her up as a mule (this is on Karana server) and I find that her Staff of the Observers, which I'm SURE I bought for about 200pp a year ago, is selling for upwards of 60k!!!

Now... I noticed that it says on the staff now that the item is useable in tradeskills. So please - someone enlighten me! What is it used for, and why is it so darn expensive??? I'm so curious now!

    Thanks guys!

    1. Check out the main site www.eqtraders.com, there's a nifty new search feature now!

    2. I did it for you this time: the Staff of the Observers is used to make this

    Sceptre of The Observers .
    MAGIC ITEM
    Slot: PRIMARY
Skill: 2H Blunt Atk Delay: 40
    DMG: 20 AC: 15
    Effect: Glimpse (cast time 3.0)
    INT: +10 MANA: +50
    Recommended level of 45
    WT: 3.0 Size: LARGE
Class: CLR DRU SHM NEC WIZ MAG
    ENC BST
    Race: ALL

Note: "This combine may only be made by Trolls" - it's a race-restricted combine, Trolls get cultural weapon-smithing.

    3. Whether it's worth 60K is for you to judge, people love to charge ridiculous prices for tradeskill compomenents. /sigh

If you see Item_x for price_y in the bazaar, that doesnt mean its worth that... if it was, it wouldnt be there. Someone would have bought it.

It means Item_x is NOT worth Price_y.

exactly.... the bazaar price is the "not selling" price not the "sale price"

Someone auctions: WTS staff of observers ... half the bazaar price!!
        Itek: What's the bazaar price?
        Someone: 60k, I'm asking 30k.
        Itek: ROFL!! Good luck.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

Actually, it only means that the person willing to pay that price hasn't come along yet. With you guys' reasoning, you'd have to lower prices all the time and end up selling items for a pittance. Although I'd admit that 60k is an insane price for a Staff of the Observers.

Um.. ok.. whatever... Put something for much lower then its real value up for sale. See how fast it goes.

Everything has a not-to-hard-tofigure value that it will sell at. If you underprice something, a reseller will buy it within a day and mark it up. If you overprice something, whoever wants it will just find a group and go get one.

Im usually the first person on Test to sell new tradeskill-made items, as i vendor dive hardcore and i like making new stuff. Ive been the only person i know of to sell any finished magnetic, murkglider, bazu and ferran armor.
I have a good idea of what its worth, I price it higher then that, and lower the price a little bit every/every other day. When it sells, I leave the price there when I make another. This isnt rocket science.
