This list was submitted on 9/24/04 we do not have any development feedback for this week's update, however, Maddoc has let me know however that next week he will have a response to each of the issues below as well as some other things the team has been working on. He should have that ready for you Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
Tradeskill Top 10 Issues
1) Velium weapon to Velium ore conversions
2) Bag tokens (This has been partially implemented with the update on 10/13 - Minor update)
3) Rotating stock on vendors
4) Nitram Anizok's plight
5) Tradeskill recipes with missing ingredients
6) Spiderling silk drop rate review (additional information provided)
7) Tradeskill Super-trophies
8) Expanding Jewelcrafting Mastery to other classes
9) Portable or multi-user tradeskill containers
10) The fabled Rune of Zephyr (NEW)
1) Velium weapon to Velium ore conversions
You can currently break down Fine Steel weapons to get various quantities of High Quality ore. Could a similar conversion be added to convert Velium weapons to assorted blocks, bricks, and pieces of velium ore?
Let's say I am doing a load of arctic wyvern armor for tailoring skillups. I have 200 arctic wyvern hides. It takes 2 small pieces of velium to make a velium bit. It takes 3 velium bits to make 2 velium studs. It takes 1 brick of velium to make 2 pieces. That means I need 1.5 bricks of velium (or 3 small pieces of velium) per velium stud. Which means I need 300 bricks of velium (30 bags full...that's more than I can hold in my inventory and in my bank) to break down into 600 small pieces in order to make 200 studs. That is a HECK of a lot of farming in Crystal Caverns, considering it takes at least two passes through the entire upper and lower orc camp to get just a single bag of bricks. That means it would take 600 passes through both upper and lower orcs. If you only get a single camp, that's 1200 passes. At (I assume) 20 minutes per spawn cycle, that's 400 hours of farming. For what will amount to about 10 skillups if you get a rate of 1 skillup per stack of hides.
2) Bag tokens: This has been partially implemented with the update on 10/13 - Minor Update (see 2C)
2A) Showing bag stats
2B) Additional Tokens for bags.
A list of GOD bags that do not have bazaar tokens was compiled and can be found here The list also includes non weight reducing bags that it would be great to have tokens for.
2C) Dropping the NO DROP tag on the new tokens would be greatly appreciated.
3) Rotating stock on vendors
A few months ago, the number of slots on a vendor was reduced from 100 (of which 20 were "under the counter") to 80. This took away the ability of players to "vendor mine" which served as both a plat sink and a way to increase the flow of usable items (particularly tradeskill supplies).
Are there any alternative ways planned to help tradeskiller find rare items on vendors? For example, it's often been suggested that when selling an item to a "full" vendor, it shouldn't automatically disappear. Rather, the oldest player-sold item would poof and the item being sold would appear at the top of the list. This would allow vendors to keep a "rotating stock" of player-sold items.
4) Nitram Anizok's plight
Tinkerers are concerned about the ability to get to Nitram in Innovation, as he is the only vendor for certain non-stacking tinkering supplies. The problem is due to both see-invis mobs along the path to reach him, and the fact that he is also used for a quest (Xanamech).
5) Tradeskill recipes with missing ingredients
There are a number of recipes in the game that seem to be missing ingredients to make them. Some have come to light with the new tradeskill UI:
Fizzle Pop (missing aerated mineral water)
Onyx Encrusted Urn (missing urn sketch {for several years})
Othmir Ocean Mead (missing grey algae, possible combination of other algae's in a mixing bowl? *shrug* as far as I know we haven't tried to see if that's a subcombine yet, so that one might actually exist in game with no lore to find out the recipe or help us search, and since people are burned out on searching since lewena's...)
Karana's Heartfruit Salad (missing Speckled Pine Fruit and Palm Leaf)
Unfired Gnollish Protection Deity (missing sketch of brell serillis)
Unfired Gnollish War Diety (missing sketch of rallos zek)
Vah Shir Shapped Cookies (missing the cookie cutter, or the pattern/sketch to make it)
Grimling Shapped Cookies (missing the cookie cutter, or the pattern/sketch to make it)
Shissar Shapped Cookies (missing the cookie cutter, or the pattern/sketch to make it)
Sonic Wolf Shapped Cookies (missing the cookie cutter or the pattern/sketch to make it)
These are all recipes that are shown in the new UI that nobody has been able to locate the items to actually combine in game.
6) Spiderling silk drop rate review (additional information provided)
Given the number of drops added to spiderlings for newbie quests, the effective drop rate of spiderling silk has decreased hugely over the last year or so. Could the drop rate be increased?
Based on data from EQEcon going back two months the volume of available silk in the bazaar has dropped significantly, while average prices have either held steady or risen. This has led to a direct rise in the cost to skill up smithing, either in platinum paid in the bazaar or time to farm the silk. People consistently post that drop rates have decreased; almost none post that they have increased or held steady -- though this, of course, is subject to a number of personal biases. The only true resolution is a review of the drop rates from actual server logs.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Some people had gone back and killed a bunch of spiderlings to help calculate the drop rate (thanks to everyone at EQ Traders for all their efforts in compiling this list.) Here's a summary. Full data can be found on EQ Traders
Zone Kills Silks Rate:
Field of Bone: 50 13 (0.26 drop rate.)
Field of Bone: 51 8 (0.15)
Field of Bone: 31 1 (0.03)
The Ferrott: 50 10 (0.2)
East Commons: 50 7 (0.14)
Greater Faydark: 50 4 (0.08)
Steamfont 50 5 (0.10)
Toxxula 50 15 (0.30)
Misty Thicket 50 4 (0.08)
Lesser Faydark 50 49 (0.98) (drop rate is a bit high. Perhaps an outlier?)
TOTAL (inc LF) 482 116 (0.24) (Including Lesser Faydark)
TOTAL (excl. LF) 432 67 (0.16) (Excluding Lesser Faydark)
7) Tradeskill Super-trophies
Add some kind of super trophy for multi-tradeskill GM's? Here are some ideas on what could be done in this vein.
A tradeskill super-trophy is defined as a trophy you can only obtain once you have all seven tradekill trophies (excluding alchemy, poison making, tinkering, and research), or one that requires 250 in all seven general tradeskills, or both.
One possibility is a combine that requires all seven trophys plus some other item, yielding back six normal trophys and one super trophy with increased stats or abilities.
Another option is for a no-fail combine of all seven trophies in a quest container to yield the super-trophy. The super-trophy could be combined by itself in a forge to yield a no-drop, no-rent, lore item with a bonus to smithing; it could be combined in a tailoring kit or loom to yield a tailoring-boosting item, and so on.
Perhaps this super trophy could allow the wielder to exceed the 252 cap on tradeskills -- if it were a 10% mod for a 250 tradeskiller, the wielder's effective skill would be 275 rather than 252.
Another popular option is to have the super-trophy reduce fail rates, much like the enchanter Jewelcrafting Mastery AA. This reduces enchanters' lock on one tradeskill while still giving them an advantage -- the super-trophy requires being a GM in all seven tradeskills, whereas enchanters can get the same benefit purely with AA's.
Alternately, a single super-trophy with multiple tradeskill mods on it would also be nice.
Could the existing tradeskill trophys be adjusted so that each yields a unique 100% WR bag? Thus, a person with three trophys could get three different 100% WR bags that don't poof on logging. This was mentioned as being possible in the past.
8) Expanding Jewelcrafting Mastery to other skills and classes
I guess I don't need to restate the arguments here. From what I've seen, the community is about 85-90% in favor of this.
9) Portable or multi-user tradeskill containers
Not all tradeskill containers are portable. You can carry a spit, but not a brew barrel. I understand some of the issues, like how would you carry a forge or a kiln at several thousand degrees, but the same could be said for a spit. While not as hot, it would still be on fire. Dwarfs want the ability to carry a brew barrel, so they can stop and drink anywhere.
An alternative would be a tradeskill container that could be used for various tradeskills, which would allow us to carry one item, and use it for different tradeskills (freeing up some much needed inventory space.)
10) The fabled Rune of Zephyr (NEW)
Please have a Dev review the drop rate of the Rune of Zephyr, if it drops at all. Some people claim to have looted one on Hate's Fury or high end LDoNs, but 99.999999999% of the rest of the EQ population believe this Rune is a myth.
Here's a link to a discussion about this on the Wizard forums (text below quoted from this link):
Even to this date, niether of these appear in any of the online EQ databases such as lucy or magelo. So I'm wondering if it's dropping and nobody's looting it, it's dropping in some zone nobody goes to, or if it's simply not dropping at all. It's used in making the spell Elenrik's Electrical Rending and is listed in the recipe sold by the Researcher in Gunthak, by the lighthouse (the book is Solomon's Restoration of Wizardry III). To this day, I've seen a lot of rare research items drop, even the rare Rune of Scintillation for Garrison's Superior Sundering. Heck, I saw 3 for sale in the bazaar one time. I've never seen Zephyr, dropped, or even sold in the bazaar.
Here's a link to a similar discussion in the Veteran's Lounge.
One last thing. The ever anxious halflings are still looking for more pie recipies (someone suggested tarts using taelosian wheat flour?)
