Gates items

I know this is probably a stupid question. Can items purchasable only in Gates zones for Gates recipes 1) be passed to other people who don't have Gates and 2) can the combines be performed by someone who doesn't have Gates?

We're trying to decide if we want to purchase Gates for one of our accounts to use as a mule to carry stuff for our other accounts.

As long it the item is not no drop, it can be passed over to a non-Gates account. Surprisingly enough, all of the Gates only items that I have used have been tradeable You may want to check on your specific items though as it has been a trick in the past to make those desirable items no drop in order to force everybody to buy the expansion.
