Unfortunately Jameline, i'm a little worried that you won't be able to upgrade this aug at all with any effect other than possibly the FT it already has. You equipped this into your helm according to your first post. that makes this Attuneable aug an "Attuneable No Drop" aug now. Even if you remove this from your helm with the appropriate distiller, it should still be no drop. I hope for your sake that you can still JC improve it yourself.

For the save versus augs, it seems like there is very little benefit to making a super duper nice JC cut on the aug because the Trivial goes up for the nicer improvements. it would seem to be more beneficial to lower the risk of losing the aug with a high JC combine and just buff it (hopefully lower; i've yet to read of any trivial other than the fine abrasive) and prepare it for the next stage of adding an effect or focus effect from the "mark of _____" sold by alchemy/poison vendors in PoK.

Also of note, you apparently do NOT lose the aug on the final alchemy/poison combine where the combiner is attempting to improve upon the "minor" effect that was added in the first alc/poi combine.

1st combine (JC): options for 3 levels of quality - failure = loss of aug

2nd combine (Alc/Poi): options for one of 15 different effects - failure = loss of aug

3rd combine (Smith): 1k or 6k inlay that will determine the strength of the effect improvement - failure = loss of the 1k or 6k inlay and dropped component, aug is not involved

4th combine (Alc/Poi): combine the inlay with the "minor" effect aug results in final improved effect aug - failure = return of aug (no changes until successful combine)

...just my thoughts on how i understand these augs to this point. opposing viewpoints welcome
