  • Dex and Wiz

I have Druid that I use for trade skills. My first goal was to get her wiz as high as possible through bought gear. I have her at 242 which isn’t bad for a lvl 2 druid.

A friend who has been in the game much longer than I have said that at one point in time anything over a 200 wiz or int didn’t make a difference. 200 was the maximum number that trade skills went by. Is this true, was this true, is it still true?

I have also been told that if you want to skill up on a skill, wiz is the best thing to raise. After that if you want to succeed on a combine, the it’s Dex. I read this post on the FAQ (see, some of us do read the faq), does it still hold true?

Q: What stats are used in what skills?
A: For ALL tradeskills, the greater of your Wisdom or Intelligence will determine your skill-up rate. In Smithing, Strength also affects this rate, while Dexterity affects Fletching. NO stat changes your rate of success, as far as we can tell. (See the http://mboards.eqtraders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31>Stats and Tradeskills FAQ for further details.)
    Thanks in advance..

For a wisdom caster like a druid, the stat to max would be wisdom. You can get it up to 255 quite easily with good results in your tradeskills (you can get it even higher with PoP AA).

Dex is in there for some of the tradeskills in order to give an assist to non-caster types (like warriors and rogues) who wouldn't have put a lot of points into wisdom or int during creation and with their armour, though many players who tradeskill with a non-caster have special tradeskill suits that max out one or the other stat.

The detailed explanation is in the Stats and Tradeskills.

Stats do not affect combine successes. Only your chance to get a skill up. See the post in this forum High stat = more skillup NOT successes for more discussion on the topic.

Essentially, you want your stats as high as you can get them for the appripriate skill (see the Stats and Tradeskills post). The only way to get a better shot at a combine-sucess is to get a higher skill, and to use skill modifing items (Geerlok and the like).

Closing to consolidate the discussion in the threads already existing for this.
