  • What is foraging?

Yeah, I was looking through the site and I saw a few items that say:

    This item is foraged:
    [zone]

What does this mean? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Forage - scrounging food and water from the enviornment.

In EQ, it is a class (ranger, druid, bard) or race (wood-elf, iksar) skill that allows them to gather edible or drinkable items. Some other items are also foraged.

Well as a dark elf mage, I don't think you will ever know the joys of foraging unless you create an alt. Foraging is basically walking around and picking up random items - usually a food item or water, although there are other things. Certain classes / races get this ability and all it takes is pushing the little 'forage' button to attempt to forage. Many people chose to bind foraging to a movement key so the little toon is just constantly picking up items as they wander around. Different zones have different items. What you are seeing is a reference to whatever zone that particular item can be found in.

        From my dictionary:

for-age n 1 food supplies for horses and cattle 2 (an act of) foraging
forage v 1 to wander about looking for food or other supplies: The campers went foraging for wood to make a fire. 2 infml to hunt about or search, turning many things over: She foraged about in her handbag, but she couldn't find her ticket.

Foraging can be a curse too: imagine every 2 minutes, you have to click a button, then open your inventory screen to try to eat it (so you don't get hungry and eat your Bristlebane's Party Platter), then drop it into your inventory and close your inventory. Every two minutes. Yeesh.

Actually Z there is a super easy rememdy to the spam of this ability. Go in to options and go to Macros. You will want to set the number key to another macro, for example when you turn left. Highlight it and then touch your left arrow key. That sets that up. Then make a hotkey as follows:

(Pretend there is that fancy black background for the hotkey hrere

            FORAGE

            /auto attack off
/doability 6 -(or whatever number it is in your skills setup)
            /pause 20
/inventory -after typing this out I am now unsure if this is the actual command, it's been so long since i have been in a Ranger suit.

The last line should be /autoinventory I've also found I want my pause set much lower, I think I have it on 6. That depends on amount of lag, etc though and is an individual preference.

Foraging is the one skill I wish I had. However, as a DE Necro I don't think I'll be seeing that skill any time soon...
