another way to look at it is, anyone with a Grandmaster trophy is a grandmaster. 250 with geerlock is just 250 with geerlock. 200 with Gm trophy would be GM

I know that a 250 with geerlock would probably do better than a 200 with GM trophy, but since we are debating what's what, it doesn't really matter.

if someone shouts "I'm hiring a GM in tailoring PST", and you answer, they then say "what's your skill level?" you answer, "210 with GM trophy", they say, "I'll wait for someone with a higher skill".

If you do persuade them to HIRE you, you better pray that you don't fail. and we all know that pretty much anything someone is asking for a GM for, probably has i high failure rate.

so to make my point, it's doesn't really matter what WE/YOU consider a GM, it's what the customer considers a GM.

just to re-enforce my previous statement, i think a GM is someone who statistically has the best chance of success (252/253 modified skill).

As stated... I doesn't matter to anyone else that you've hit 201 in your skill. When somebody out there is shouting that they want a GM smith, they are *not* looking for somebody with the same chance of success on high end stuff that they have with their 0 skill. They are looking for somebody with the maximum chance of success. And bottom line, what they are looking for is all that matters, so while you can go ahead and *call* yourself a GM smith at 5 skill if you'd like, you are NOT one until you hit the effective cap. Now, not sure which is accurate, (240 if 252 cap, or 243 if 255 cap), but either way only somebody with the maximum chance of success IS the GM that players are looking to hire.

Now, if you're still stuck on having 201-240/3 getting a special name, my suggestion would be specialist.

As for Artisan? Not sure about you guys, but according to every definition of the word I can find, an Artisan would be BELOW a master. A master is somebody who paints beautiful portraits and pictures. An artisan is somebody who paints signs.

      More accurate would be:
Apprentice 0-49 (just learning the skill)
Journeyman 50-99 (has a better knowledge of the skill, can do work on their own)
Artisan 100-149 (starting their own business/competant at the craft)
Master 150-199((excellent at the craft/teaching others)
Specialist 200-249 (filler, master would really be 150-249, but a name for somebody who has chosen to specialise seems somewhat fitting)
Grandmaster MAX (THE best at the craft. Nobody better. All others look to them for any instruction they need, even other masters.)

Of course, all of this is redundant, the only thing that matters is that when somebody says "looking to hire GM smith" he's looking for somebody with max effective skill.
