  • Raid Loots (Tradeskills items)

Question for you all, what does your guild do with tradeskill items that are looted on raids? This is mostly for the elemental items that are high sellers, but also much needed by guildies (we just broke into elementals, so everyone and their brother want the things like featherwood compound bow for use not to mention for the aid grimmel).
Before it was a thing of ask the raid looters for it fast enough before it got dumped on a vendor, but now I think I and a few others have impressed upon the officers that we NEED to keep these items, that it would be a travesty to vendor this stuff!!

Our guild just reached the EP as well. We have quite a few tradeskillers, and our officers are aware of the parts we need for the quest, because we told them. There is a list on our guild boards of what's been picked up and what things to save.

One person has already completed Aid Grimel, a few are in the final stages, and I'm working pottery right now. I was able to loot a Hope Stone in Earth the other day, so I'm set for the final earring at least

Most of the EP drops are given to the established "GM TRADESKILLERS" and then processed into usable goods. These are then distributed to apps, lower geared members based on need. It is pretty well established that no one is to economically gain from the fruits of the guild, so any upgrades are to be turned back in for redistribution/sell by guild bank.

After a little education as to what is worth keeping for our tradeskillers, we generally ask raid attendees who have the skill if they need anything and then guildbank the rest.

when we broke in to elementasl, we tried lots of ways to handle TS material until we came up with a permanent solution. The best of the randoms was to raffle off the drops after the raid at some designated location.

          Our permanent solution was this.

          1. designated TS material banker
          2. designated TS looters (who then dumped on the banker)
          3. magelo for the banker
          4. a thread on the board was created to make requests from the banker (items and or combines)
          5. elemental armor and bows and focus stuff were made by a cadre of trade skillers and LOANED to the guild (and tracked) returned to bank when upgraded
          6. Aid grimmel stuff could be requested by showing that you had made prior stage

the upside of this is that still today we have a mechanism that works really well and transparently. as far as im concerned, raid drops belong to the guild not to individuals. you can improve the guild by loaning items out and ultimately selling obsolete items for your dot fund. DISCLAIMER: Dont try this wo the right people tho.

Our guild does it pretty much as Lickity describes: I tend to be the GM tradeskiller who begs/cajols/harasses looters to keep any tradeskill-related items (and foragers too--keep that mint and ginseng!), and officers typically give me looting rights for the same reason. I have about 5 mules full of stuff, and I make announcements periodically telling guildmembers that I have materials for gear if they'd like to talk to me (made somebody a stonehide bracer this week, for example).

I'm not an "official" guild tradesmaker, though I'm pretty much the only one who is aggressive about both looting the gear and making stuff for people. I have an agreement with officers to NOT profit from the tradestuff I loot on raids, but they let me keep some of the cash from non-trade drops (diamonds and the like) to pay for the mana vials and other crap you have to buy. My profit, apart from just enjoying helping guild mates, comes from the skilling up that this sort of arrangement allowed me to do.

For tradestuff I make that is entirely store-bought (Quintessences, for instance) I ask that people either buy the raw materials themselves, or reimburse me. No profit expected. By and large, this seems to work well for our guild. We distributed a lot of bows this way, as well as a lot of elemental gear that has slowly been swapped out for elemental quest gear, and handed down to new recruits as needed.

My guild functions a lot like you guys - we're not EP yet so our components aren't worth as much, but generally tradeskillers post what we need on the message boards, and we've been educating guildies about what we're capable of making so they save stuff. Right now we've been making a lot of nightmarewood compound bows for people, and I've made a ton of LDoN armor for twinks.

Usually it's semi-expected that if people get tradeskill drops and they're not a tradeskiller that they give them to someone who is, and most of the time we only charge for storebought materials when we "sell" to guildies. Usually with us if you have something it's yours, rather than being a guild loan - although this also comes with the "if you sell something I gave you for a huge profit I'll slash your tires" which works well. An ex-guildie (who is still a friend) has equipped a number of us with nightmare bows when we bring her the materials - to the best of my knowledge no one has sold one of them, if we upgrade we hand down to another guildie.

But we're also a family guild, so that makes a difference too.. I talk to a lot of my guild outside of EQ on like AIM and stuff. I actually hired a guildie at my company once because we had a book deal that we were looking for interior art for, and her website had a bunch of stuff that was in the style we were looking for.

Generally to make things easy on the rest of the guild, the tradeskillers tend to decide amongst themselves who needs what drops (if tailoring is your main thing you get priority over me, because I'm mostly a smith, etc). Everyone lists about 10 things or so that they REALLY need so people don't have huge lists. For me it's usually Words of Abrogation, Cursed Clovers of Viesar, Ashweed, Gargoyle Granite, Sand Verbena, Goblin Bones, Essence of Shadow, Ice Lichen and Pondweed.

Superb and Flawless hides usually go to one of the other tailors, despite the fact I'm in about the right place for them, because they're focused on tailoring and I tend to smith.

Between tradeskillers, we pretty much save anything and everything for each other - most of us are familiar enough with where everyone else is that we know what they can and can't use, if someone else can use it we save for them.

My guild, with the full support of the guild leader, began what we called the Academy of Artisans (AoA). All dropped tradeskill items went to the AoA, and we also offered guild points (our version of DKP) for those that turned in tradeskill components they gathered on their own time (farming, group loot, etc), allowing them to use those points to get raid drops OR use them to request an item made by the AoA be put up for auction (with a set minimum bid).
We also sponsored events like scavenger hunts for tradeskill components, and how-to/guide write-ups.
It worked quite well for a while, and we upgraded many members using this method. If you'd like more detailed info, you can visit our AoA site here. Yes, yes, I realize there's an extra i in the website link.
