This is something that I've been thinking about for a long time. I don't know why I like the idea so much, but I do, and so I thought it might be interesting to see what other people thought about it.
A lot of people (translation: me) have been getting nostalgic lately, yearning for the good old days (never mind that the old days weren't always "good"). Well, remember those items that everybody had to have way back when? Minor upgrades to gear that people would spend hours camping or saving money for to buy in East Commons/Greater Faydark? Thigs like Impskin Gloves, Polished Bone Bracelets and Gatorscale Sleeves/Leggings. Well, what if we could make those via tradeskills, along with some brand new items that have the same "flavor" as those classics (think Impskin Slippers, Polished Bone Amulet, Gatorscale Belt...)
So we'd have a familiar item that we all know and love:
Impskin Gloves
Slot: HANDS
AC: 2
INT: +5 MANA: +10
Focus Effect: Affliction Efficiency I
WT: 1.5 Size: SMALL
Class: ALL
Race: ALL
And then add a few new members to its family:
Impskin Sash
Slot: WAIST
AC: 2
INT: +4 MANA: +5
WT: 1.5 Size: SMALL
Class: ALL
Race: ALL
Impskin Slippers
Slot: FEET
AC: 3
INT: +7 MANA: +15
Focus Effect: Burning Affliction I
WT: 2.5 Size: SMALL
Class: ALL
Race: ALL
The recipes to make these items could use drops from mobs in the zones they're found in and surrounding zones. Fire Imps in Solusek's Eye and Lavastorm Mountains would drop Fire Imp Skin... Blood from the nearby Fire Goblins would be used to make a tannin... Perhaps more powerful versions of the items could also be created, Imbued Impskin or Glowing Impskin or something along those lines, with level II focus effects and higher stats.
I don't know, it all sounds really good in my head. A way to liven up those old zones that rarely get visited anymore, as well as bring back some of those old familiar items that have been since replaced by easier to get/more powerful gear. Plus I'm really itching for some new recipies, even if I have to dream them up myself.
Any opinions? Is this a worthwhile idea or am I just an old mage who needs to stop clinging to the past?
