    No pRomises at all.

*IF* I were to do something like this. *IF* I were to add increased skillup it would only be on the later recipes in the series... I.E. the one where if you do fail.... you have lost hundreds of combines. It would not be on one of the ones you have to do hundreds of times...

i think that that was a hint that tradeskilers want easier and less costly ways to go to 300 skill doesnt have to be guaranteed skill up f\but mobs that drop lots of whatever would be needed and nothing that makes it super costly... If this quest would be a viable route to 300 Tailoring im sure plenty of people would do it just for the skill up

I love the idea of new tailoring combines of potentially high trivials with stats that makes them actually worth while either for myself or at least to the gen pop for selling, but as for a bazillion subcombines, I think somebody somewhere who plays eq must know where he lives

Let me have a bank full of 20 slot containers first and then make more of the insane subcombine ts items.

Honestly anything with a silly number of subcombines like that is more for gearing yourself or alts up with key pieces and not really skilling up on, but then there are real die-hard tsers out there I'm sure it'll appeal to as a route. You have to wonder though if a few thousand spider silk or spiderling silk woudl take less time than existing high triv farming...

I like the idea of doing something for the non-Anguish geared/guilded tradeskiller. GM cultural was awesome for that (except for /cry coarse spider silks) but it kind of stops there with the augs being out of reach for us as I've complained and been ignored for in other threads.

I think that one option would be to have evolving gear like the ehhem Coldain prayer shawl evolve into a better item, higher level foci etc based on tradeskill successes in certain areas. Certainly Brell would appreciate 100 GM tailoring combines wouldn't he if you complete a little quest to waste some nasty giant somewhere?

To be honest, 1000 combines is nothing. I skilled up fletching from 200 to 300 in three days, doing 1000 arrow combines a day, that's around 10 000 clicks, considering subcombines, buying stuff, etc. So if you put it at 10 000 COMBINES, it already gets a bit hardcore, in a good sense.

For a shawl-type item where you gradually build up, not losing everything at some points, 10k combines would tickle my sense of accomplishment.

People are getting hung up with how many items it is... the idea is to keep combining them into units that take up less space... not collect all 2600 items first then do it... that would just be wastefull of space!

Ngreth, on the lines of your failure not costing everything (like some raids can recover)...

How about having one of the pieces be destroyed.

                  i.e. Final Combine is
Body Piece + 2 Arms Pieces + Skirt Piece + 3 mana vials + needle

                  On success get Uber robe

On failure what is returned is: Body Piece + 2 Arms Pieces + needle

You have some code for xxx is returned on failure anyway, so you could reuse existing code to impliment this and not have to make any new code

so there are always some losses, and these are a significant part, but it is not a total back to square 1.

Even if you do gather all the stuff up beforehand...thats what mules + secondary accts are for.. =) I've got a mule loaded down with 30 10slots of misc AAAA parts+subcombines for the guild's supply... couple mules loaded up w/old cultural, sickle parts, etc... couple mules loaded down with master's arms+gloves just in case tribute gets added to them... unless you're on FV, space is never an uncontrollable issue - and when you've got about 20 various mules on 3 accts...its like xmas when you get around to rummaging for something when you cant remember which toon its on... you find all sorts of goodies you'd forgotten about =)

I'll take half the subcombines at 4x the cost. Time is plat!

When skilling up I would often look for the easier (less time consuming) route, say x items on two vendors very close together in the same zone with maybe 1 dropped component that I could pickup in bulk. There very well may be cheaper combines with a series of subcombines or with vendor bought items in separate zones, but they take longer, and are more annoying.

Take spell research for example. It's a great way to obtain those missing GoD spells and the only way to skill up past 227 or so at some cost, and the recent availability of crystallized sulfur and saltpeter is great, but the number of subcombines is just annoying.

I guess for me a combine that goes beyond a few subcombines becomes one that I'll try only if I must, especially if I want to use it as a skillup route.

If, however, the end result is a very very nice item that can fill a weak slot then I suppose having a crazy amount of subcombines may be called for, like the new DoDh augs, but I sure don't want to be making them over and over again.

I think the point is that the combines are there so this tradeskill item isnt out of reach for those with no plat or on uber guild support.

Keep it combines rather than plat.

And for the record, i love the idea!

I think the greatest single thing to boost tradeskills was the Solstice earring. It was multiple combines from several skills to make several items. Every tradeskiller around was jazzed about it and hundreds of new tradeskillers were born on every server. This could be something like that if you involve everyone into it with each step being tradable (even usable to itself).

I like the idea but would much rather see the Dev’s valuable time being spent on making farmable skill-up paths for every trade first. Once the path to 300 is there, we can jump into fun ways to use them.
