  • Trader Booted for Being Idle?

Each of the last few days, when I come home I find that my trader in the bazaar has been disconnected. Today, for the first time that I've noticed, a message was displayed saying something along the lines of being disconnected because I was idle longer than permitted.

Has this been happening to anyone else?

    If so, for how long?

And is there any way to keep a trader online while afk for extended periods of time?

    Confused and frustrated.

That message is what happens when you stay at the server select screen too long. There was a message with the old login UI that said you had been disconnected due to time out blah blah. What happened is you were somehow disconnected from EQ and booter to server screen where you sat for more than the 10 or so allowed minutes, and that's why you got the mesage. Try it, log on to server screen and walk off. Come back in 20 and you'll see that message.

the same thing happened to me today. i came home to find that my trader was logged off, and eq had a dialog box up saying i had been disconnected because i was idle too long. i guess what happened was that the bazaar or server crashed (or something like that), booting me to server or character select screen?

More likely what happened was someone tried nefarious tricks like having 3 people MGB in one spot at the same time or a bard set up AE song to cause someone to lag out (IE you) so they could go into trader. Or you may have just gone LD for any of EQ's random bugs err I mean features that liek to happen.

            Possible--or you simply went LD

                Did the increase it again?

I'm convinced that my trader always seems to have a mod-rod on his cursor because people are deliberately trying to cause massive bazaar LD's.

                    Bazaar Bizarreness

Things to note in the Bazaar:

Yes, mod rods and MGBs are often tried to get folks to go linkdead so that someone can get into trader mode. It doesn't happen as often any more, but it used to be a nightly event when the limit of traders was 500 and that limit got reached regularly.

Yes, it is a good idea to sit down if you're right near the edge of the trader stall. I watched someone log in and out repeatedly to "bump" another trader forward by bits until he dropped off the stall sill, and out of trader mode. I petitioned it, and the bumper got a soulmark for it, but the GM told me it happens quite often.

The maximum number of traders allowed is currently 600. Bristlebane reaches that limit on rare occasions, but not often. Newer servers never seem to get near it, which is why some folks think there's no limit.

The "booted for inactivity" issue has been reported multiple times on the SOE EQ forums.

There have been a few comments from the developers like this one:

The message you folks are seeing here is from the front end (server select/chat) server, not the ingame world server.

Most likely what happened was that the world server or zone was taken down or crashed and your character was exited out to server select. Once at server select you will get this message after a few minutes of no activity. Before, with the old front end, you would just get dropped out to the main menu or desktop when this occured.

The game world servers are NOT booting people offline for lack of activity. It would be kinda silly to do that especially with the bazaar.

So it seems that they don't consider this a problem on their end yet. Hopefully, they will find the problem and fix it soon.

Umm, why is it a problem? If the zone crashes and you're not in trader mode any more, does it matter if you're at the server screen, or the desktop? It's not like they're going to auto-log you back in and put you back in trader mode when the bazaar comes back up. They might could change the message or something.

I've been seeing these an incredibly annoying number of times lately. I run two accounts, both go dead at the same time. There are peak periods when this will happen and times when it never happens. I can be logged in for 8-10 hours with no problems then get 5-6 EQ killing events. Sometimes the entire server goes down, sometimes entire zone will crash.

Something stinks somewhere. The stench increased dramatically with the login redesign.

Edit: The two accounts are almost never in the same zone at the same time. Just in case someone wanted to point to zone-lag.

That's just it. The zone is not crashing.

yep, I've had this happen numerous times lately, without the bazaar crashing. I set up trader for the night, head to bed, and come back in the morning kicked outta eq...ask around, our bazaar is very active and people are still there from the night before without having any problems.
