Bear skin potion bags! Before these, no such thing as 5 and 10 dose potions. I had just started into tailoring and made a killing selling these in EC. Since I carried my sewing kit all the time for changing unstackable silks into stackable swatches and threads, I could make these on the run in EC and sell them as fast as I could make them. Jewelers loved them too, for saving a bit of wgt while having 10 slots for their supplies. Lowbies got free buffs in those days, not the over 45 MGB-able crowd

Banded at 2pp per AC. At 5 to 10 pp per AC Fine steel could only be purchased by the uber twinks. Fine steel was the best player made you could get regardless of race or diety.

Deluxe sewing kits! With 10 slots!

I remember when finding a Black Pearl while merchant mining could cause a loss of bladder control. (Yes, I was merchant-mining even then – though I don’t think it had a name then.)

Shady in EC tunnel was the best Merchant for mining since he was killed regularly.

Giant meats sold well for baking skill-ups. Charcoal, russet oxide, etc, for dying armor were also great sellers when that smithing skill first came out.

If you were selling skill-up items to a vendor, the price paid would change after a while and you would have to move to another merchant to continue getting the best price.

Fish rolls were the best for baking profits due to their light weight. You could actually sell tailored small and large bags to characters. Fill a large bag with fish rolls and you had the monks lining up. Once you got them there, show them a bag full of that new shiny gold colored Wu’s armor for mega profit.

Large sewing kits weighed less than backpacks and held Giant items, so they were used for carrying supplies even though eventually you WOULD hit combine and destroy everything. EVERYBODY had Deluxe sewing kits in all 8 bank slots.

The “Fleeting Quiver Mystery” was the “Lewena’s Revenge Mystery” of that day.

Omgosh, I remember making bearskin potion bags to hold stuff!

In my first guild, I was the "librarian" officer - holder of pages, writs and runes for folks to withdraw to combine. Filled up 2 mules with bearskin potion bags...too funny.

And as much as I hated it, I miss EC tunnel...massive spamming text in /ooc, /auc and /shout...could barely read anything the text flew by...

Wow, I was getting 1pp per AC on banded. You must have been there way before me.

It was called large sewing kit. I only bought one and still have it. They don't sell those anymore.

I remember when there was no use for Iron Oxide other than to make red dye for FS armor. I collected a few of those, some Russet Oxides, Charcoal and few of those mushrooms (can't remember the name but dyed the armor yellow I believe) and made few dyes. I still have a few of each brown (Russet Oxide) and Red (Iron Oxide) dyes with me in the bank. I do remember that the most popular dye was green but only way you could get it was from a ground spawn item in Gfay. It was green color and you know the ground color is green in Gfay. Once I spent many hours looking for one and never found it.

          Yep, I remember that.

Other things I remember. I was doing my very first quest, which was Paw of Opolla. There is one tradeskills involved with this quest, it was for Rat Ear Pie. I have never done tradeskills before and I wanted to get this. So, I got enough to do about 10 combines and thought how hard can it be? Well, after 7 failures in a row, I knew I was beat. I spent 3 days looking for a GM baker (I think the trivial was very high at that time like 198?) and about to give up. A very nice Female Erudite Mage who was GM in baking finally answered my call (I think she felt bad for me) and we went to Erudin, which I have never been to been before, and she made the pie for me. That's when I said I would start TS and never rely on anyone for making something for me. Almost 3 years after that, I made 1750.

None of the blocks/bricks/pieces used to convert. No weapons converted to ore. I remember when HQ ore was only dropped from Goblins and it was the only way you could advance in smithing. There were very few weight reduction bags in those days so you had to hunt until you weighed down, then you had to run back to where forge was and convert them in to sheets. Before the days of PoK, you either had to ask a druid to port you or you ran a long ways.

My memory is not great (some of these may be wrong) but some things that stacks now but didn't before, in no particular order, are ceramic lining for pottery, Plains Pebbles, all Pelts and silks, MQ/HQ folded sheet & metal rings for smithing (not 100% sure on this), casks for brewing, armadillo husks for brewing and I am sure a lot more but I can't remember.

I remember now. Started out as a change to the Large Sewing Kit, but got nerfed for weight and the name changed to Deluxe Sewing Kit when Verant realized they were too useful to non-tradeskillers. I still have bank-fuls of em on toons on Bertox and Lanys. They are no longer sold, but still in game. They were a treasure to Tailors at the time because the only other option for doing the new 9-component Wu's was a stationary loom - And Wu's was not just a passing phase of tailoring. Wu's filled a major gap in skill-ups and farming silks when the highest level was not Planes equiped 65 took a bit longer than it does today.

Ya, I remember those silly Plains Pebbles. Didn't stack when you foraged them, but the Imbued ones did. Imbueing them while camping Gnolls at the Spires would get you dirty looks from the group for wasting mana. Clarity was rare and no Bard song at that level then.

Unrelated to tradeskilling, but one of my fondest memories: Collecting coppers off the ground under Aviak village, running to the top to buy bandages for my Necro. Free hp = free mana for a nec!!

Talking about South Karana reminds me of another mystery of the time: /ooc "Anybody know what this Undead Cyclops Skull is used for?"

Then the skull ale hint came and everyone kept trying brewing combinations in that 4-slot skull.

I remember travelling with my wares between Freeport and Halas. I had backpacks FULL of banded of every size, selling pieces to hunters who needed them in places like HK, SK, Everfrost, etc. Lemme tell you, walking across WK when you are 3x over encumbered takes a VERY long time. Someone would come by and SoW me and I would be sooooo happy.

Was giggles of fun, the old days..;-)
