  • Looking for opinions on +tradeskill Items

If you knew that you will eventually (and relatively soon) get a +15% tradeskill item, would you work your way up to 250 in the skill in question?
Is there any point to getting over, say, 222 or so in a skill if you have one of these items in your future (besides, say, simple bragging rights?).

Just trying to decide how much more Smithing I am going to do past the 215 I am currently at..;-)

        yes and no

There is no point to getting over 220 + 15% as far as game mechanics go.

There is a big difference to how other tradeskillers view you.
220 is MUCH, MUCH lower then 250.

There is a big difference in how people hiring you percieve you.

I would suggest after 220, slow down on your smithing and just do a full stack of something as you get all the ingredients.
If you continue to do combines for people (friends, guildies, commision...) then you will inevitably get to 250 someday anyways.

So the only question here is, how do you percieve yourself?

          No there isn't.

252 with mod item is 252 as far as the customer is concerned. That said, I'm only at 237 with mod and I'm finding it tremendously difficult to stay motivated.

...unless they change the coding to allow an unmodified skill check to determine if an attempt may be made.

Say, that with the next expansion, they add recipes so powerful that only someone with 250 unmodified may attempt it, regardless of success rate.

Personally, I would wait until you HAD the 15% item, before doing any more smithing. You'll still be able to skill up on the same items, but you'll fail a heck of a lot less.

In fact, if you are at 215 unmodified, I'd get item, then just crank out sickles until you're happy with your skill. The success rate should be high enough to be highly profitable, where it would barely be break even without a smithing modifier.

                gettin to 250

Many tailoring recipes are NOT trivial at 250....no one really knows when they trivial....would it not help to have the 15% modifier on top of 250 skill...won't that raise your working skill above 250 to ,say....287 or so?

No, modifiers only take you to 252 according to a Fan Faire chat, so once you hit that 252 number with a modifier you're as high as you can get.
