If I didn't have the sound on, I wouldn't have known about the rockin' steel drum sound of the Othmir town. Or the very humorous baseline in their tunes.

I have no major trouble finding my way around Kelethin, it's the 20K damage falls from the Fier'dal Forge b/c I am clumsy when I am trying to run back to the bank because I forgot my chisel or hammer or large brick of acrylia or something else. If all fo the ramps had hand-rails, I'd be much happier.

But in truth, if the dang city were on group level and I could run from point A to point B, I'd be happier.

            forget the falling off....

finding your way around when you're new to the game is frigging miserable. "Which platform am I on? Where's the bank? Where?? What's podlift? What's a pod? Why is my name red since i gave him back the book? Why is it called orclift? I don't see any orcs AAAAAAAAAAAAAA" *death*

I went to eqatlas and printed off the kelethin map, then went around manually and figured out which ramps went up and which went down and which were level, and /marked them/. After that I ended up knowing the city and what vendors sold what (before they put the secondary tags over vendor's heads). Kinda spoiled me, because I go to a new city, and I don't know where anything is.... heh.

Then again, I actually took the time to learn the most common and some of the lesser common vendors in pok, including the 10 npcs for that planar book quest... which means i have to bite my tounge when people start shouting 'where's caden?' because i know i'll be pestered for 30 min, because they don't know where he is, nor the other 9.....

There is a reason my guild refers to Rivervale as Rivervale Dungeon.

I'd rather have my fingernails pulled out with pliers than be forced to listen to that all day. Is it any wonder halflings often become druids and theives? *wicked-enchantress-imp-grin*

The stupid bar-party-singing-"Can I have a bottle of water" thing that happens in Katta and PoKnowledge has made me turn of environment sounds too.

If Paineel was actually any use at all for tradeskills, it'd be the best city there is - nice keyed lift to keep out all the riff-raff.

Unfortunately, it's the worst city for tradeskills...EVER!

Bah. I LUV my hometown's music. While it may seem ridiculous that I'd enjoy the neo-oompah band that entertains that town, I like the environmental music a lot, and that's a signal that I'm home. Other musical themes that stand out:

Ak'Anon and the area near it in Steamfont: When I first heard this somewhat techno-tune I thought, "Eh?!?" but frankly it seems appropriate that the very mechanical gnomes would develop such music. The darker, more hardcore gnomes would have gone in more for industrial music, which they did...

The factory in the Plane of Innovation: Very industrial, very tense. Love it. I'll actually preferentially join ramp pickup groups over graveyard pickup groups just so I can listen to the music while I med.

The Greater Faydark: The music for Kelethin is very fitting for such an arboreal place and I like the way it fades in as you approach the city, and out as you leave. When I'm crosscutting the zone, it's the first indication I get to start looking for platforms above. The music that fades in when you go north of orc hill is familiar now, but the first time I approached Crushbone, I got a sinking, fearful feeling from that music alone, and I was 43rd level at the time.

The Plane of Tranquility: When I get done with a group or raid, invariably, I'm flat out of mana. I often have to med to get enough power to gate home. When I do, I'm bound in the Plane of Knowledge, because it's convenient. If I'm going to be sitting for more than a minute, though, I'll run over to the stone and med in the Plane of Tranquility, because it's very, well, tranquil. It goes without saying that I'll sit there if I'm doing big runs of some tradeskills that use movable containers (like prepping Halas pies). The music is most of the reason. The fact that virtually nobody shouts there is the rest. It's amazing what level restricting a staging zone will do to cut down on spam.

Kaladim: There are no less than five musical themes in Kaladim South. I've actually spent some time moving about the city, talking to merchants (which turns on the "shopping" music) because when you stop talking to a merchant, the theme that's centered on your location takes over. You can play "song pong" with the themes to hear them all, or run to your favorite, click a merchant, click it off and it'll stay until you click a different merchant or zone.

Halas: There's only one theme in this town that I haven't found elsewhere, but I found it made working Minotaur Hero's Brew very tolerable because it was so enjoyable. The Fire Cider bar is the home to this theme, so go in and brew there, and enjoy.

I love how any EQ discussion invariably turns into one EQ player telling another that they have two much time on their hands because they play everquest, or comment on everquest.

Kelethin is the only city where the zone you are in isn't named after it.

                              I think.
