  • Best player made suggestion to come out of EQTRaders in a long time..........

    Krazick, Scaley Database Kitty, suggested,

I personally don't mind Quest Containers... but when one quest chains starts dumping 2+ containers that are too small... and weigh too much... I start to question why even try to do the quest?

OK... ok... they want to cut down on the MQing... fine... Give me a TOKEN when I start the quest. That when I examine gives me the discussion back (in book form or something). It can list the items I need to be seeking...or the NPCs I am seeking. Maybe even have it keep a running tally of what steps I have completed. When I get ready to complete a step of the quest, give the token back to the NPC, he/she gives me the quest container. I put the items into it... do the combine... and return it.

This helps me by documenting what I need to do, what I have done so far (or items I have collected so far), and prevents MQing. It doesn't load me down with stuff.
This is probably one of the best suggestions I have seen on this website in a VERY VERY long time. I too get irked when I am ladden down with unwanted quest containers for items that might take me 2-3 months to aquire.

SOE, why dont you implement the above suggestion? I think its a fantatstic concept and should be used immediatly.

There's an even easier solution, perhaps. We already have Caerlyna (or however you spell her name) in the bazaar; she'll exchange your weight-reducing bag for a token you can buy or sell. Why not have her do the same thing for any quest container, but have the token she hands you back be no-drop?

That way, you don't need to change every quest in creation to give out tokens. Rather, you just implement two new "mini-quests" for each container, one to hand the container in and get the token, and one to hand in the token and get the container.

I would certainly LOVE to be able to do this with something like the PoK gate tailsman -- I can get the first one pretty easily, but I can't afford the container cluttering up my bank while I wait to get the bits for the second one.

Ohh yes , the ability to convert quest containers into nodrop tokens would be a godsend.

Receiving the container and its size, weight, dimensions are genuine to the quest other wise they would just change the quest.

Quest containers are also used to prevent MQing, since it makes the overall turnin just 1 item.

why not just make the token has a effect: summon quest container?

then you only summon it when it is ready.

99% of quest containers just require you to say the key phrase to get it. When you realize you need a container for a quest you can usually just delete it. When you collect the parts you go say the key phrase and get a new container. There are some that this does not work for but they're very rare.

Lots of good ideas here. Any one will work fine and would be far superior to starting a new quest and getting all those new quest containers unexpectedly.

That was a real pain in the tukus after talking to fezbin and his pals.

This is true, but there are a number of quests where getting the container requires you to jump through a number of hoops first. You can't just skip the preliminary work and say a line to get the container.

A perfect example is the one I mentioned before -- the PoK gate talisman. Here's a brief overview of what's involved.

                  1) (optional) Talk to the gnome in PoT for the back story.
                  2) Get an item from PoJ
                  3) Hand it in to get a note.
                  4) Take the note to a gnome in PoK and hand it in for container 1.
                  5) Collect four items from four Tier 1 zones and combine in the container.
                  6) Hand in the combined items to get container 2 and your first reward (Small Clockwork Talisman).
                  7) Collect four items from several flagged zones (including Sol Ro's Tower) and combine.
                  8) Hand in the combined items to get container 3 and your second reward (Powered Clockwork Talisman).
                  9) Collect four items from the elemental planes and combine.
                  10) Hand in to receive your ultimate reward (The Binden Concerrentia). (edited to correct the item names)

The first container is easy enough to get; the item from PoJ is a common drop that often rots. The second container is much more difficult to get if you lose or destroy it -- you must redo steps 1-6 above entirely. Same with the third container; you must redo steps 1-8.

For quests like this, there should be a way to put the container "on hold." Either the quest giver should hand out a non-container token that you can hand in to get the container, or else there should be a "bag check" option to hold the container. Tradeskillers are notorious for being pack rats, and I just cannot afford two or three four-slot quest containers in my bank.

Heh. I've got Askr's Bag, the Gate Talisman Box and the Earring of Veracity Report Satchel. All either 4 or 6 slot bags that can't be reaquired through a text phrase. So, due to these 3 containers being what they are, I am now short *16* storage slots on my main character. That's a lot of storage!! Seeing as how I am working almost all tradeskills simaltaneously my bank is bursting at the seams with bits and pieces and I'd be ecstatic to get these 16 slots back.

Give me a TOKEN when I start the quest. That when I examine gives me the discussion back (in book form or something).
You know that there is a journal that already does this, right? You can turn it on and off at will, so when getting the quest, turn it on, and then turn it off after the dialoge is done, so you don't pick up any unwanted text. Then you can open it and reread it anytime you want.

Make it a collapsible container in all cases, where the collapsed version is part of the recepie needed in the final combine.

                        - Get collapsed quest container token
                        - collect the items
                        - rightclick collapsed container token
                        - open created container
                        - put in all items + collapse token
                        - get quest turn in item/final procuct.
