  • A heads-up on fixes for the new UI

First of all, thanks again to you all for all your kind words about the new Tradeskill UI.

After a bit of debug work, we've determined that there was a low-level miscommunication between the database used for tradeskills and the in-game code table, which reads in the data from the database. This resulted in a mismatch between recipe ID numbers which is producing many of the problems you all have been helpfully pointing out to us. The fix for this is fairly involved and, as far as we can tell right now, not without repercussions to your current favorites and learned recipe lists.

We're working on the fix right now. As we do, we'll try to see what we can do to salvage your current favorites and learned recipe lists, but the initial impression we've got is that we'll have to wipe them out when the fix goes in. It's not set in stone, but it's a pretty good bet. This means, of course, that you'll need to re-learn any recipes that aren't on your auto-learn lists (in order to use the new UI for them, anyway), and re-make your favorites list. Because this will probably happen, we wanted to give you all a heads up.

It's not all bad, though. The re-organization of the favorites data will allow us to give you many more favorite recipes. Our current plan is to increase the favorite count to 100.

Thanks for the heads up Tanker! I for one won't mond re-learning my recipes, I'm just glad you've been able to track down the bug and how to squash it. And we get 5x the favorites as well!!

Just a thought, with these modifications are you able to come up with a way to make favorites carry over to any container that can make an item? Let's say I have Silk Thread on my favorites, can you make it show up in all sewing kits that have the ability to make silk threads, as opposed to just showing up in the kind of kit that I used when I added it to the list?

Thank you, Tanker, for the heads-up. It is very much appreciated.

As a denizen of Test Server, im used to things being undone and reworked, so it wont bother me personaly to wipe the favorites list, tho im sure some on 'normal' servers will whine. =)

Its a small price to get things working properly.

Im gonna take a stab at an assumption that theres been a push recently to keep the various niche communities better informed on changes, which is a very very good thing. Please, keep it up! Make us happy paying customers!

Us 'Testers' have had to deal with bugs and changes with no forewarning for a long time, until recently, when a Dev (testing developer) posted on the Test Server message board regarding a big problem that caused many characters to vanish, and that fixes and restores were in the works.

All the Test Server family appreciates the posts, and im sure the Tradeskill community does as well.

        Thank you!

Tanker, thanks for letting us know what's going on. Even bad news is better than not knowing at all, and I, for one, sincerely appreciate your and Maddoc's efforts to keep us informed. It's worth more than you may know...

Myself, I'm just happy you're telling us this, now, ahead of time. Sooo much better than 'pay no attention to the devs behind the curtain' ^_^.

              Thanks muchly.

Now can you pretty pretty please tell someone to take Target Click Shows Help away? ^_^ I'll ship you all some good German chocolate...

The heads up on having the Learned recipes wiped is very much appreciated. No use plodding through more of the new recipes until the fix is done (glances at the precious few tea leaves she has stashed away and is glad she didn't use them).

I guess this means I have to actually kill mobs or level or something until then .... wow, what a concept! ::giggle::

Thank you again for the wonderful communication with the EQTraders board on the subject.

Good lord Tanker, are you insane? Letting us know ahead of time may start a precedent and folks might grow to expect this...

Just kidding, thanks very much for the heads up. I'll be sure to let my tradeskill heavy guild know about this.

Since the launch day of Gates of Discord, the "Target Click Shows Help" has return to "Enabled" status every time I log in (ie, restart eqgame.exe).

If it helps, I did not have GoD preordered. The one and only time "Target Click Shows Help" was not enabled upon login was the session where I activated my GoD key. All the times before then, and since, the help has been enabled.

I checked in my eqclient.ini, and there is the line
                      LeftClickTargetHelp=0
Haven't experimented with changing it out-of-game though.

I know /exactly/ where that button is. I turn it off... and off... and off... and off again. Sometimes I check before I click anything, when I've signed in, just to make sure it's still off.

Mainly for reasons that won't be discussed, I remember the patch on Nov 5th verrrrrrrry clearly. That was also the day that TCSH was introduced.

At the time, I was frequently hoping between Sullon, Tarew, and Mithmarr, on two accounts but running out of the same EQ folder each time. That's six options, you see? Three servers, two accounts. VERY quickly I noticed that when I would sign on to a new server OR change accounts even on the same server, the option would flip itself on again. And I would turn it off. And then I would change server/account, and it would flip on again. Sometimes (tho more rarely) even if I just changed charactors, on the same server+account... "... Stand close and right click on the Player to consider and inspect him...."

I see how this text can be useful for new players.
I am not a new player.

I /have/ /feedbacked, I /have/ bugged. I know others have too. It's a reproducable problem that makes me cry. Ok, it only did that once and I was in a miserable mood to begin with; I shouldn't let EQ make me cry.

I'm serious about sending you German chocolate if you fix it soon. ^_^ At least, if I can afford the shipping.... if not, I'll find some good chocolate in America who will ship to SOE.

Wow, a dev responded to me... What is this world coming too? ^_^!!

                        Be safe, you all.

edit: Sorry for the relative hijack, but this really has been making me pull my hair out for two and a half months; it honestly tops my list of Things I Wish SOE Would Do. And I know I'm not alone in this. Thanks for reading this, guys, and definatly thanks for talking with us beforehand. It's little guestures that go the longest ways to (re)building trust.

Many thanks for the heads up!

I for one do not mind losing my current favourites, esp if we get a favourites list with 5x the capacity in the bargain!

Just to confirm: This doesn’t mean that those of us who completed the GoD tradeskill quests to learn how to refine the raw materials will lose that knowledge altogether, right? We will only temporarily ‘forget’ the recipe, and re-learn it the next time we use it? (ex: refining Raw Pale Nihilite into Pale Nihilite, refining Etched Muramite Scales into Preserved Etched Muramite Scales, etc) I’d hate to do those combines all over again, even with the new UI, my hand was sore.

                          Thanks!

Hum ... on the Target Click Shows Help thing ... for me, it's whenever my client crashes when switching characters or zoning. As soon as I log back in or select a server (which one depends on whether I crashed to server select or the login screen, but both are without restarting eqgame.exe), TCSH defaults to ON, and I have to manually click it off. It stays off if I log off properly or zone or switch characters without crashing.
