  • Interested in opinnions: Are the new tradeskill drops too rare?

I'm feeling, with the expansion having been out for almost a week now (or is it two weeks? I forget), that we're beginning to get a picture of how the GoD tradeskill drops are, and so far, it makes Acrylia look like Ruined Bear Skins.

I've spent a fair amount of time in Natimbi, the only zone I've really felt comfortable being in so far. I've killed a lot of things, and had one Tea Leaves drop for me. The few people who have even seen them drop have told me they seem really rare.

Wheat, aligned ore, and dark matter seem to be similar. I've seen one LQ hynid hide so far.

On my server, I searching for the word Taelosian (hoping to get tea), I got back
    Taelosian Wheat (1) -- 250p
    Ouch.

I guess I'm wondering, if we go by the finished products that we know (the various brewed teas), what's other people's feelings about scarcity vs. worth of finished products? I feel like I could spend the better part of a day (if not multiple days) to make a single stack of White Ginseng Tea, when in the same amount of time I could make several if not a score of stacks of Qeynos Afternoon Tea, which in my mind is as good if not better than the new teas.

What do you think, should we start grumbling for drop rates to be upped a bit? Maybe some of the things should be added as forages (so the less than 55 crowd has a shot at the new combines)? What do you guys think?

I myself have been pretty disappointed with my inability to procure even a modest amount of tea or wheat, when I have backpacks full of cragbeast and hynid meats from running around Natimbi.

I remember reading in another thread that there is a quest in which you need to turn in some of the tea to an NPC. Maybe the drop rates are low because they are a quest item? (Seeing as the baking components are very very available while most of the brewing are rare there may be something to that)

The turn in is just to refine the wheat into flour.

I think it's to early to say if the components are too rare. We don't know what they make yet. If they make junk, like we are seeing in jewelry (rare drop from Yxxta + plat bar = 5ac 40hp range item) then they are too rare, but no one will care anyway.

If they make really nice stuff like the PoP tradeskills did then the drop rates might be appropriate.

I don't know of any recipies that use the wheat/flour yet...

Given what I've seen from the teas, it seems like they make decent, middle of the road stat food that may or may not sell in the bazaar, and generally are the sorts of things I'd give to guildies at no charge (I occasionally give out stacks of fruit juice even, just so people don't get bored of water).

I think that the teas are definitely way too rare, given what they make so far...essentially, to save up the several forages and tea leaves takes up 4-6 inventory slots, which are pretty precious to a tradeskiller... and I think that if the drops don't increase, then nobody will save the space in order to make the teas, and that's a shame, because they're fun little drinks, and I think they do add something to the game.
