  • Background questions for GoD

Have been curious since Tuesday where all the recipes come from. Yep some are in the tradeskill UI, but from what I can tell a lot of them had to be tried first so I was wondering where they come from. Do NPC's tell ya things to try, are there books with the new recipes - I did get the jewelry book from the quest in Abysmal so it pointed to things to try.

Any hints on where the sources are?

Also, are there any merchants or safe places areas in the zones beyond Abysmal? We have that faction staff that works on the Taelosians (or whatever the folks who look like they are from Disney's Atlantis are called). Is that faction help us with any quests or merchants?

Inquiring hobbits want to know. I think curiosity killed the halfling before it did any damage to any cats if mine are any indication (cute critters sleeping all over the place).

I know that from the tailoring quest on the QoT that has you making 400 pieces of clothing that you get a book full of new whip recipes. You're also shown how to prepare the scales used in other new recipes upon the quest's completion. So yes, there are both new books and quest NPCs that are giving out info on the new recipes.

Seeming as how eqtraders.com had an entire database of stuff inputted the day GoD went live, i would imagine that the Sony people gave eqtraders/denmom/friends a good chunk of it instead of having to write books and put them in game, which i think is a mistake.

I do not beleive you have to have an outside independant source that is the only place that this sort of data is available. Every recepie in Everquest should have something in game that gives you the details, either directly or hinted, store bought, mob dropped or quested.

We shouldnt have to be going thru the torture of figuring out what Lewenas favorite drink is by reading a message board. It should be IN-GAME. Somewhere...

I don't think that's the case at all. It's more likley that people associated with the website were part of the beta test, and went around and found the recipes. There are usually books that list most recipies for the expansion. One of the NPCs in the new zones will probably sell them to you.

          Thanks,
I knew jewelry gave a book, and so does tailoring. Pottery didn't seem to come with any book but I haven't finished the progressive quest yet. Which of the other progressive tradeskill quests are booked?

I guess another thing that was tweaking my interest was that there were some odd combines in jewelry list that could not have come from the book: Iridescent Scale Headdress, Shrunken Skull Necklace, and Polished Stone Luck Piece for examples.

anyone shed any light on this? I know a lot of these receipes probably came from beta because I know traditionally some of the more respected and beneficial EQ site admins like DenMom have been given beta accts in the past and what not.. but like the alchemy receipes for example,

I did the combines to be able to make the filtered sludge on my own and did not get a book like i did when i did it for tailoring. Where did these new receipes come from? One merchant sells most of the pre-GoD herbs including the "old school" ones they rereleased in shar vahl a while back.. and the other guy sells 28 new herbs.

Now the new receipes that are posted take 4 of the new herbs and a cork and an empty vial.. there has to be a use for the Sample of Filtered Sludge, its comparable to the Muramite scales for tailoring or the Aligned ore for smithing, but none of the posted receipes use this. Now assuming most of the new receipes take 1-4 of the new herbs, plus the filtered sludge and possibly other tradeskill stuff like corks, we're talking about (literally) hundreds of thousands of possible combines, millions if you increase the number of possible components to 8, the new size of the medicine bags. I don't know about you, but I dont have the time or energy to organize a scientific structure to make out millions of possible trial and error receipe attempts just for alchemy with the new 28 herbs (not to mention using any of the 75 or so older herbs).

Alchemy traditionally didnt have books at first, but almost all combines were 2-3 components and experimentation, while daunting and time consuming, wasn't impossible... oh well.. I'll keep poking around I guess.
