  • Two new features make for happy tradeskillers

I like the new tradeskill UI very much. Besides the obvious reduction in clicks, I also really love how my slots can be totally full and yet I can do the combine. With a recipe that relies on non-stacking items, this means you can stuff yourself to the gills wit the components and go and just replace one component with the by product and chug right through.

I did end up with my gnome crawling through the PoK with AGI=3 wiht a load of tinkered geerlok hammers in tow, but a kind soul SoWed and STRed me.

The reason I lugged the Geerlo hammers away from the Smithing merchant who sold me the Smithy Hammers was the tribute system. I am stil not sure what I use thos epoints for, but int he course of last night I took my gnome's tinkering from 195 to 207 on geerloms (mostly hammers, I had lots of stacks of acrylia). Except fora few I gave to guildmembers, I transferred all the rest, 2 bags at a time, to my main, who shuttled between the bank and his tribute master. Whether this is a big number or a small number, it seemed big: geerloks tribute at 1400-1440 per, and int he course of getting 12 skill ups, I also got 248,000 tribute points.

Since 5pp will get you 5 points (I tested) and these geerloks tend to sell back in the 10pp range, if tribute points are worth anything, this was like getting a 140-fold boost in value for a skill up item that I was gong to make (and VT... too many to save for bazaar I was overflowing with hammer) anyway.

    Andy

p.s. The economic implications of the tribute system are pretty cool.

Assuming those points are worthwhile, it look slike some old-reliable bazaar standards are going to slowly disappear. geerloks is one of them. If tribute points are worthwhile, the flood of geerloks int he bazaar will dry up. OR, peopel will offer them as a consumable (for ribute points) and they will slowly increase in price as demand scoops up the cheap ones, etc. But even something like the Leaf Scale Glove, a great Poor ranger item which I snapped up (to test) for 25pp last night (and I've seen go as low as 10pp on a busy period, gave me 1,356 tribute points. The phenomenon of getting a drop that you are beyond but which you'd hate to VT, and thus you twink an alt or give to a newbie may be changing as this new option, tributing, becomes available.

And as I said, I have no idea if 248,000 points is a lot or what I will us eit for, but I think SOe just gave tradeskillers a great "by product" of their skilling up... right at the same time they made it easier to skill up.

EDIT: Post Second Patch, and the geerlok hammers still yield 1,400 points per hammer.

I am hearing a lot about how many tribute points can be earned turning in relatively useless items. I strongly suspect the points will be nerfed, but before they do I'm heading home and racking up some points while I skill up...

I didn't get a chance to try the new UI last night. Hopefully I should tonight.

According to Andyhre's post it seems you don't need have the items stacked in the appropriate container, you just need them on you. Does this also work when you are at the banker? Other than brewing or smithing I do all the subcombines for MTP's while at the bank. Ie: I open my mixing bowl. I have the spoon and rennet in the bank and the milk in a bag on myself. Will it do the combine for the mature cheese by taking the necessary items?

I make the subcombines for MTP's in lots of 200. For obvious reasons I slice the cake as needed. Do you need to slice so many cakes (maybe 120) and do the attempts then go back and slice some more?

      Thanks,

You can use the UI when the banker is opened but it does not search your bank inventory for the item, so you hav to shuffle a little.

You can also do it at a merchant, with the merchant window open and thus buy/combine/sell quickly if you want to (I had trouble on my tinker b/c he need a serious CHA boost to buy and sell, so I had to swap in/out his mugs.

As best I can telll, you would need to have the actual ingredient, so if you need a subcombine, you'd need to do that first. But you could put the subcombine on your favorites list and just click on that recipe whenever you needed to generate more.

I actually think there may be some intent behind the funny prices. There is imply too much old world decent stuff floating around. The leaf scale glove that I tried out is great example: it's a decent level restricted item that no one at that level would dare use, unless they simply had no cash, needed a stop gap, or were determined to non-bazaar themselbes. At any given moment, you'll see 5-15 of these, at prices as low as 10pp per. So isnatched one up to test last night and found it "sold" for 1,356 tribute points.

I also had a Cloak of the Ry'gorr oracles I found on a merchant over the weekend, just to see if I could flip it. I was offered 666 tribute points, so I turned that one in as well. This is a classic item that you see lower level characters wearing but at the point where you can get it yourself, I suspect you already have better. So perhaps the goal is to encourage these items to becoem scarcer.

As for the geerloks, they too are cheap as can be in the bezaar, esp. brewing, fletching, and smithing ones. It makes tradeskilling more expensive b/c the items become Vendor trash or barely bazaarable. But now there is a second use, one that uber types might value more than small-fry, and so the market for these will improve because

          a) some tradeskillers like me are tributing them instead of selling them as they use them as skill path, so they poof.
          b) some tradeskillers may start sellign them at high prices as they use them as skill path, now that a raider type can swoop in and buy 20 geerloks and get 28,000 tribute points.
          c) some tradeskillers may start making them for profit again, even if they are trivial.

In some sense, it makes the geerlok into something like a MTP, an item that you can skill up on AND potentially sell profitably. Previously, since no character needed more than one per geerlok type, supply quickly outpaced demand.

This will be a huge boon for tradeskillers. Just about everybody in my guild has said that they'll be visiting the tribute master before every raid to pre-buff themselves. Casters/Clerics can;t turn down more FT, Melee's turn down Vengance X? I don't think so. So they'll be in the bazaar practicing trickle down economics and buying up the skill trash that is at low prices to stockpile their favor points.

Now is the time to make the 1750 club and bot go broke doing it!

You hit the nail right on the head. The tribute masters were taken down, because of this problem. Things like fishing grubs, book worms and silk thread were giving about 1000-2000 points each. As always, some people took advantage of this, and turned in boat loads of them, and have upwards of 6 million tribute points. I am not one of them though (not for noble reasons mind you.) My copy of GoD has not yet arrived.

                UI and storage

An interesting thing i noted last night. I was skilling up on gold star ruby rings and very near full in my inventory. When i hit 199 I switched and did a few fire emerald bracelets to get to 200.
Done with JC till I get the AA points to go on I opened my JC kit with control right click to put my geerlok in it for storage and there were 3 rings sitting there that had been placed there by the autoinventory. Didn't stop me from making combines.

It never ceases to amaze me how fast these exploits are found and how much faster they get known around the different servers. Remember the "Cheese" exploit..

I logged on my trader on Luclin and within 5 minutes of oocing new trader a player came and bought all the crap I had on me that was under 5pp (And I had no hope of ever selling). Later on I logged back onto Drinal to try the new UI with my BL. I quickly checked my trader and sure enough he was just about picked clean of the low cost junk I had for sale during the afternoon while he was up.

Tribute masters seem to have been removed. At least the one for Felwithe was nowhere to be found.

animated bait was giving 23600 tribute points per stack. Animated bait cost 3 copper each. I know people who got up over 5million tribute points.

At level 65 you'll go through an average of 1000 / hour for 5 tribute buffs. 5 million tribute points would last you approximately 200 days played.

The animated bait was an over site due to a blanket pricing system.
The item tag "skill mod" had a set price and that price was high. Beause animated bait has this tag its prices were high. A few folks abused the crap out of this and some even made some cash off of it selling bait in the bazaar for 50p each.
They have since then removed all the favor folks as has been stated and are revamping the prices and i'm sure they will all come down and expect to see the skill mod tag items take a big hit in retubution for the abuse.
Hopefully they dont nerf the entire system cause I personally like it.
