I have to say for the question of profit, my smithing profits are staggering now that I can do heraldic armor. I'm relatively new to the high end smithing, and currently my net worth would be 250k+ Note, I'm only level 48. Of course to get to that point, heheh that's the killer. You're looking at an investment of 40k-ish. Soooooooo you'd have to get a loan to do it but hey, if you can find an interested party, offer like a 100% return on their investment.

Most profitable Tradeskill?

There's lots of great suggestions in this thread already, but I just wanted to point out that the tradeskill supply market on FV doesn't seem as lucrative as it may be on other servers. It probably has something to do with the age of the server and that we have a larger range of buyable gear that competes with tradeskilled products. It's also hard to be patient selling when you only have one character to store stuff on.
For example, I've seen people talk on this message board about iron oxide still going for 200 platinum, on FV the price has crashed to around 40. Someone mentioned selling leather padding for 25 platinum, while I've found it is slow to move above 10 on FV.
There's still money to be made farming tradeskill components on FV. Take a hop over to the tradeskill & market forums on FV's community bulletin board (ezboard: bfirionavie) and see what people are buying and selling.

go for it
Don't listen to anyone who says don't bother with this or that tradeskill, you won't make money.I had no money when i started tailoring, but as I leveled and worked at tailoring the money came from good drops and buying/reselling in the ec tunnel
,and later, the bazaar.Spend a few minutes each day lookin for cheap stuff to resell in bazaar....it's the best money maker in the game.A close second for me is tailoring. My skill stagnated a long while after i trivialed wu's.....but I kept pluggin away...trying to get a skill up point a day.I'm at 222 tailoring now and I make good money from it.Leather padding is a good money maker,so are handmade bags at lower levels.fleeting quivers once u hit the 160's are a good income.I get 500 pp a stack for the padding, and its easy to make.It still amazes me how many pieces of reinforced acrylia armor I still sell(not for a lot of profit on each piece but it adds up)I never pass a vendor without dumpster diving for cheap supplies and pelts.we have at least 4 or 5 gm tailors on Zeb,but there is still room for me to make money on tiger raptor, black panther, haze panther, acrylia, and my favorite money maker of them all,the fleeting quiver
).They don't bother with it anymore....they're too busy makin the PoP items and TONS of cash. This leaves lots of room for me to make a living.I love tailoring, and it very satisfying when some1 asks you to make something for them.At high levels tailoring is a very valuble skill and a respected skill as well.People in general know how difficult and time consuming it is to get there.I'm glad I stuck it out...keep at it.
