Not sure if the quick posts by Verdandi and Niami were brought on by my post, but if so please notice that I was saying that you CANNOT do what someone mentioned. If not, I agree with the 2 posters above me.

More just brought on by an overall worry that folks might think that it is up for discussion whether such stuff should be posted here or not, when we've already posted that this is not the place for describing exploits.

I for one am glad they removed *part* of the macro problem

as posts have been edited i assume someone has already mentioned the part they overlooked

i hope that gets fixed in the next patch ..

Evidently there are still different recipes out there that yield similar results, so, fix is not complete yet.

Bah, read before posting, read before posting...

I've more than likely been simply curious. While pure details on exactly how and what to use in order to do an exploit should most definitely not be posted in order to preserve the game, I wish there was a way to go into WHAT happened that triggered the exploit.

FOR EXAMPLE, if someone had used the trader system to dupe items, I'd like to know that... If somebody used a macro to gain experience, I'd like to know that. Not just that there was an exploit and it was fixed.

The reason, because if I know something else that might allow MORE exploits like that, if anybody I knew was using an exploit like that, or if it affects something that I might have or make (Coldain Velium Tempers for example), then I'd like to know about it.

I'm just glad they are doing something, anything about some of the exploits that have been happening. The plat dupe in particular, prices in bazaar have been a bit loopy lately, the things I want to buy are receding into the distance as fast as I can save money in the game. Then you gotta consider, if the price of things double, and you save twice as much and buy it, are you just encouraging the inflation by being willing to pay that much? Och, me head hurts...

                Here's what I do when I see a suspected Macro'er:

                1) hit the forage key

                2) deposit the results of said forage key hit in the container being abused

2b) if forage failed, deposit something cheap like a fish roll (I keep 'em handy for force feeding) instead

                3) sit back and determine if it is indeed a macro or just a l33t tradeskiller

                4) if it is indeed a macro then I /report /petition the abuse

                Done and done.

I agree something needs to be done about macroers, but I don't want something that'll come back to hurt the tradeskiller's comunity. One of the ideas was to have a 'limit' on how much a merchant will sell to you of an item in one time period. So you can't buy 1000 whatevers that is being used for the explolit. Yes, it would stop macroers, or at least halt their massive progression, but it would also hurt tradeskillers working on a grind.

One of the simplest ideas I had to hurt macroers was to have the merchants /say 'thank you for purchasing -item-. That way everyone knows what he is purchasing, and it'll help find out what the exploit is because you know his purchases. Yea, it'll add to merchant spam, but if that's what it takes to cut down on Macroing, then so be it.

I think people have already started with your "active interference" idea; I've been cleaning random trash out of forges every time I go to make some armor in an obscure area like, say, Qeynos for Heraldic.

Anywho, about your merchant spam idea. It would work, but it really would be irritating to people who are just passing by. PoK would become all but unusable, as it has a merchant every 2-3 steps. Instead, set this merchant speech on its own filter, and have it off by default. In general, there'd be no reason to turn it on unless you're specifically looking to find out what people are buying and selling.

My concern about this becomes one of privacy and practicality. Let's say I get insanely lucky and find an Ornate pattern on a vendor (a few people who post here have done so already). I really don't want every Tom, Dick, and Harry in PoK to start spamming me with "Wanna sell that? I'll give ya 10pp for it, that's SO much more than you just paid LOL" or other such nonsense.

Just as a topic for civilized discussion, I see posts about possible exploits as twofold. This in now way is meant to at any point be a criticisim of Naimi's wonderful resource that is a second home to many of us (work trolls like myself too), and I fully agree with her policy and support it.

The only problem I see with not allowing discussion of macros and exploits is that the only people looking for them and finding them will be the people using them.

I have enough to worry about just trying to GM 7 tradeskills (*3 down, 4 to go), get my epic, raid with my guild, and level my alts (because all of that is fun for me). So when people like me (who /bug, /petition everything that comes down the road that isn't working, or is obviously broken) do happen to stumble on something, rather than abuse it, we document it. See my post on Nimrin Stonecutter for an example. Free CVT's, and I don't take a one of them.

I guess to me, if the word got out, then maybe enough people would be in an uproar that SOE would have to do something about it. Right now, I understand that they don't have to worry about a few people on each server macroing tradeskills. But if it were public knowledge, it would be harder to cover up, or to ignore its existence.

I guess I just like to point out the pink elephant.
