I was cleaning out my shammy's bank this weekend (as I have to do every weekend) and was astounded by the number of tradeskill tools he had. 37 different items. All sorts of collapsed containers, geerloks, pie pans, hammers, corking devices, etc. I guess this come with the terrirtory of working on all tradeskills at once. Thats still nearly a quarter of my bank used just for tools. So I had an idea for a new item, Tradeskillers Work Bench (or maybe call it a Gnomish Rolling Toolbox). This could be a tradeskill related quest or just a tradeskill made item. Either way you would get an item with 1 charge of Summon:Workbench. This would summon a 40 (or higher) slot container that you could put in the bank to hold all your favorite tradeskill tools. The Workbench would have some outrageously heavy weight so you couldnt carry it around (its supposed to stay in the bank) and be Lore, No Drop. Anyway just a fun idea, I'm sure I'm not the 1st to think of this but I sure couldnt find any threads on it, lol. Back to work now.

heheheheh.
The first thing I think of, "it would have to have some way to tell and force that you can ONLY put tradeskill related tools in it." Then items would have to have at least an invisible class to them.
Collapsables, geerlocks. [types of] Smithing hammers. Dairy Spoons, Filetting Knives. What about tradeskill containers? Guess the container-in-container thing would apply, so no [racial] fletching kits, sewing kits, jewelry kits, spits or mixing bowls.
Even so, I kinda like the idea.
Second issue: Quest needs to be HARD, even mildly so. Requred level? Might punish young skillers. Required skill level in any one or all skills? Might punish slower skillers. Long camps? TSers have odd patience ranges, it might work. Created item? Hm. Sort of like the various shawl/earring/robe things. Maybe.
It's a fun idea to think about, for sure. ^_^

In my limited understanding of coding, player files track all items you "rent" with or "logoff" with. The higher you make this number the more memory it takes up. Back before graphics players could crash games by logging with too much stuff and running the game out of memory. We have come a long way since then but I'm sure its still a concern, so the statement of limit 10 is probably something they will keep their foot down on. But sure a tradeskill only box with a higher limit would be nice.

they have stated that the current engine will not work (ie will explode, cash, die, void) containers with more than 10 slots.
what about a multitool? anytime a tool is used you can insert your all purpose untensil and it will try all possible tools looking for the right recipe.
seems way too intensive but you just throw in a gnomish all purpose baking/smithing/sewing/.... utensil and it tries the combine. flag the gnomish all purpose baking utensil with to be usable in all recipes that a pot, pie pan, muffin tin, filleting knife, (other baking utensils) are used in instead of them. dont think any recipe requires just a tool change like muffin tine to pie pan. that would be a problem but otherwise i think it would work. then your various collapsed containers and various all purpose utensils would take 14 space more for rouges, shamans, gnomes, and researchers but still.
also no multi gm trohpy because they cant add more than one skill mod to an item they said at fan faire i beleive. so all 7 trophies still. think they are looking into seperate bags though.

A different idea
rather than an item for holding tradeskill items or an all-purpose utensil, why not an all-purpose container (or perhaps set of containers) like "Gnomish Cuisinart" (all baking combines work in it, no tool needed) or something like that?

I really think it would not be that hard, in the long run, to make 7 different trophy bags. can elaborate if desired. /shrug.
What would I give for a combineable Filleting Knife and Dairy Spoon that would still perform the functions of either? And only take up ONE SLOT. /sigh. Would have made life a bit easier during the HMP days. Wow, I'm so glad those are over.
Yeah, I guess I can see the thing about taking up so much memory to log out. But still. File it under the 'wouldn't it be cool if' slot.

Possible space saving idea, related to tradeskill containers like spit, mixing bowl, sewing kits, glaze mortar, etc…
The new NPC on test that given tokens for bags…if she does the same for tradeskill flagged containers, I would gladly hand her those containers to turn into a token. Especially useful for those cultural fletching / tailoring kits….since they don’t have 10 slots, I’d much rather put a backpack in that slot and gain some additional bank space. And if someone can't afford teh collapsible containers yet, this is an interim solution
Sure, it means you have to stop off in the bazaar to redeem the token when you need to use the container, but so what?Master Artisan Maevenniia the Springy Sprocket Stockpiler of the really long name

They could make a Kitchen Drawer (made from only the finest woods) and it would act as a keyring. Open it up, place a tradeskill tool in it, hit combine, tool dissapears.
Now, right click the drawer, it summons a random looking tool that can be used in place of any item you have combined in your drawer. It would keep track of all items you combined in it and the tool it spits out when right clicked will have the properties of all of those.
You could take this even further. Buy one of those collapsed fletching kits, or collapsed anything, put THAT into the drawer, hit combine, it goes poof.... but now you can use your drawer as THAT type of container. Once you put one of each collapsable item into it, it can be used for any combine that you could normally do in that type of container.
So now it can be used as an all purpose combine container, with some exceptions like smithing, which doesnt have any portable container, and it can also be right clicked to summon a magic tool that can be used in place of any normal tool you have put into it.
Spiffy eh?

I'm waiting for the insane tradesquest that's going to require you to combine 7 GM trophies in something, and get a single trophy or something.

Tokens for bags, Ah intresting solution for the "How do I sell a bag in the bazaar"
I also like the idea of a multi-use collapsable container!
And while we are about it, lets throw Spell Research Containers in - at least to make them collapsable. It would also be really nice to have another >250 tinkering recipe or two.Piting 57 Gnome Cleric 7th Hammer, Smithing 188, Leader of the Gnomads

hehe, they've already done that once. and notice how there's a limit to the number of open bags you can have at any one time?
8 'old' slot bags
8 'loy' slot bags
8 inventory bags
2 shared bank bags.
that's 26. Yet you can only have 25 bags open at once. I thought something was wrong when i couldn't open my mixing bowl once.
I would be happy if they made a 'Mule' class. An unplayable character that cannot gain or hold xp, that could hold maybe 12 bags on the person instead of 8, plus the appropriate bank space of the player's account (8 sans loy, 16 with loy). SUPER low on graphics, somewhere in height between a wood elf and a gnome. Only one model each for male or female.
Intended to become the preferred bazaar trader mule for anyone, but ALSO since it's a non-xpable charactor, the two servers of Sullon and FV can have the rest of their character slots open up to this class. IE: Sullon only allows 3 playable characters, but I could chose Mules for those other 5 slots. FV only allows 1 char, but those other 7 slots could be Mules.
That's my pipe dream.

I think the only way it would work is to make a container (generic). That could be augmented to act as other containers. For example you put a spit augment into it, then later add a brew barrel augment. Now you can do both brewing and baking from that container. I think that would be a very good idea. Maybe even let the gnomes tinker the augments, or have the augments be something you could buy in LDoN. Or have them quested or dropped. Not sure but I think it would be nice if someone made it.
