Serverwide Tradeskills channel

This post intended for first time and/or rare visitors to the channel.

Hello, my name is Phabos, and I am a regular on the serverwide.eqtraders channel.

Just so everyone is clear, those of us who are on a great deal, most of whom also regularly read these forums and the website, ARE NOT there to replace the site. We do not appreciate being told we are there solely to help those who wish to raise xxx skill to yyy status and make pp doing so. We offer assistance because we are generally nice people. If you need something, PLEASE check the website first. If you are having trouble, ask. We don't mind giving the occasional recipe or answering tradeskill related questions, but we ARE NOT the end-all source of all information.

Also, please don't ask for a price check. Each server is different, and prices and values fluctuate from server to server and time to time. If you do ask, you are likely to get a highly sarcastic answer, at least from me. If they are tradeskill items, we might be able to tell you what we buy/sell for, but again, be prepared for sarcasm.

That being said, if you want to talk about tradeskills, join us. If you want to debate pros and cons of various skills and paths, or if you just want to be surrounded by people who are just as (if not more so) addicted to tradeskills as you are, come on in. But DO NOT get upset if we can't (or won't) tell you something that can easily be found on the website. And NEVER, EVER put down this website. You will have 75+ people turn on you in a heartbeat.

Join us, talk to us, and even ask a few questions, but do not expect us to spoonfeed you information.

P.S. If this is taken as more of a Primal Scream than a discussion, please move it to the appropriate forum. My intent is to address recent problems that have arisen between some extremely ticked off tradeskillers (myself included) and some (perhaps misinformed) individuals.

Phabos, you magnificent person, you stole my idea.

Of course, being true to form, I was going to rant and rave in PSR, with lots of caps, and in a much more excited tone of voice.

But seriously folks. Listen to Phabos.
1) We are not there to be an encyclopedia of information for you. That is what The Denmom has graciously provided her webspace for.
2) DO NOT TELL US WHAT WE ARE THERE FOR. Please, it's really annoying.
3) Price checks are bad. And that goes 10-fold for non tradeskill items.
4) We show our.....err... what passes for love.... with sarcasm. Tradeskilling is repetitious, and stressful. Expect to get joked at, and expect 6-7 sarcastic answers to your question before a real one. If your question is one that shows you have done zero research on your own, multiply that number a few times.
5) Just like the denmom and admins and mods hate cross posting, we HATE it when you repeat a question 30 seconds after asking it , every 30 second for 2 minutes. If we dont answer you the first time, wait a minute or 5, then Ask a follow up. "So , I take it that's a no on my Tailoring question?"
6) I can not stress number 4 enough. We are not *ALWAYS* friendly. A great deal of us are grumpy, curmudgeonly, and very intolerant of stupidity or laziness. While the Play Nice attitude of the message boards possibly SHOULD apply, it doesnt always. Since the channel has no mod/admin staff, some of us who are in the channel on a daily basis do our best to keep the channel free of the trolls who would otherwise infest it.

That being said, In channel, I am Noishpa, and one of the grumpiest grumps to ever walk the face of the planet. Unless I am personally talking to you when ranting, dont take me all that personally. I tend to rant at pretty much anyone who is listening. Only a precious few have earned my ire, though. So Do your own research, relax, prepare to be verbally sparred with, and enjoy serverwide.eqtraders

I joined channel and getting line about 'what level can solo a mobs', you out of cigarettes, the war news and a link to someone's last 'uber' loot ... did not particuliarly sound 'traderskill' info/query/advice ...

I then send a simple request

'I joined this channel expecting to get ONLY traderskill chat, not to double OOC/Auction channel spam, any channel to sugest ?'

with reply like
'try serverwide.getaclue'
'leave and spare us you imbecility'
...

does not show much help, so I just left the channel.. but its sad that we cant get a usefulll channel without morons...

any other channel avail ? ..

I have combat spam, ooc spam, auction, shout, guild and tell and alliance, paladin and trades channel... I really dont mind a channel being quiet for hours, if you get nothing related to say, shut up! ..

there plenty of channel avail for other use, why do you spam 'ALL' server with idle chat ? ..

hmm, ya .. I expect some flame, these will be ignored as well as the channel is left disconnected ..

I'd appreciated if someone would like to start a new channel, with strict rules on usage ...

Actually, your "request" as you put it was rather offensive at the time -- Smalltim had just found some tradeskill items sold to a vendor, and your comment came in TOTALLY unrelated and pretty much told everyone in the channel that not only did you have no clue what was going on, you didn't not even feel it was worth your time to figure it out...which obviously offended the people who weren't AFK in channel. While I don't exactly like the responses back to you, you should understand that you came across as a troll with your comment.

Aye, we were discussing good finds from vendor mining, and you come into the channel at random and accuse of auction spam?

I personally, was wondering if you phrased that to be as offensive as possible.

I can't get much further into this post without violating the rules of the board, but if EVERYONE takes offense to your statment, and seems to think that it was a rude thing to say, perhaps you should reexamine it, wouldnt you say?

I wasn't there for this instance, but seriously, do you think that the people in the channel *only* talk about tradeskills all day. Most people in the channel are there a lot and have formed friendships. Friends talk about a lot of different subjects. Many times the subjects talked about have nothing to do with EQ, let alone tradeskills. And yes, good finds on vendor mining is a very common topic. People like to share their good fortune with their friends. Coming into the channel and telling the 80+ people there (most of whom are on autojoin) that they can only talk about tradeskills seems moronic. I'm surprised you received that nice of a reply! If you had a question regarding tradeskills, you should have just asked it as politely as possible, not degrading people and acting like a troll.

If you think that strict, dictator-like rules should be applied to a tradeskill channel, then sure, go form your own and see how many people regularly join the channel. Channels are to enhance our playing enjoyment. I doubt such a strict and harsh channel ruleset would be any fun.

My hats off to someone joining a channel, and immediately insulting the type of person that would be in the channel...

Some trolls are very good at their jobs.

Apparently, this poster also failed to read the two posts prior....

We are a community of tradeskillers who enjoy discussing WITH EACH OTHER. This does not necessarily have to be about tradeskills. When you /join a channel that is unmoderated, as serverwide.eqtraders is, you are joining a group of people who are likely to be discussing anything under the son. The common thread is that we all enjoy tradeskills, but that is not the only thing we like to talk about.

I love how these statements are in the same posts as the one complaining that it will cause flaming. As a regular chatter, I find these statements offensive, and I for one, am glad that this poster will not be returning to the channel.

If you wish to have a channel like the one you described, feel free. You can moderate it, password protect it, and enforce whatever rules you like. In fact, I encourage it and urge you to make it your only channel. Enjoy talking to yourself.
