Wouldn't be that hard to do, either ... I don't think.

Just add something cheap on a vendor for around 1sp or less, call it a Blank Mark (similar to a Blank Emblem).
Make it a no fail combine in any container, which produces a no drop mark with the skill of the crafter. Would only need 251 new objects ... and to change the tradeskill spam msg. so that the group also sees which container the person succeded or failed in.

    Instead of seeing ...
Soandso succesfully made a Metal Bit.
Soandso was not succesful in making a Clump of Dough.

    Change to include container...
Soandso succesfully made a Metal Bit in a Forge.
Soandso was not succesful in making a Clump of Dough in a Collapsed Mixing Bowl.

I wouldn't think it'd be that hard to add the name of the container to the combination message spam.

Then you could have something like ...
Soandso succesfully made a 250 Skill Makers Mark in a Forge. (proving they are a 250 smith).
    ... or ...
Soandso succesfully made a 242 Skill Makers Mark in a Planar Sewing Kit. (proving they aren't a 250 tailor, but may only be a 242 w/geerlok, etc.)
    ... or ...
Soandso succesfully made a 87 Skill Makers Mark in a Jewelry Kit.

Once you add the container to the combine message, then it can be a universal recipe for any combine container, and a cheap and easy way to prove to someone seeking your tradeskill services, that you *are* the skill lvl you claim to be.

Of course, once you've gone that far though, might as well ask Sony to make the Marks an Augment, and have them add type 9 slot 0 augment slots to every tradeskill item armor/jewelry/weapon ... so tradeskillers could put that makers mark into a type 9 aug slot, which couldn't be removed with a solvent.

Then, when you were shopping for low grade jewelry in bazaar, etc ... you could feel better buying the pieces tagged by an aspiring 97 Maker, instead of the un-marked or 250 marked, since you'd be funding someones JC career, etc.
It won't get your name on the item you make, but it'd be a way at least feasably to at least see the skill of who made the item. As well as provide a means to verify someone's skill ...

Make the Aug Marks No Drop, but make any Slot 0 Type 9 aug coded to be Tradeable on the item (basically an Aug Slot that ignores the Tradeability rules on the Slot 1-3.

In UO EVERY item was an individual object saved on the server. not just an object referenced by id's. They could have different speeds different stats when made, custom names, etc. Thats how they were able to do have them get damaged and decay etc.

In eq it doesn't work that way.
