I believe when the channel was first created several months ago, it was password-protected to prevent a hostile takeover of sorts -- if the channel ever got empty, a meanie could log into it using an arbitrary password and thus lock us all out. To help prevent this, we were using a password -- the same as the channel name. If memory serves, a passworded channel isn't deleted unless the chat server is taken down; thus the password remains even if the channel is empty. I could be wrong, though.

Over the last few days, I've been able to enter the channel without a password. I hadn't tried for a long time before that, nor have I tried in the last 24 hours.

It's possible someone still has the password set in their auto-join line or in a macro or some such; if they entered when the channel was empty, that would set the password for everyone following them.

Try /join serverwide.eqtraders:eqtraders and see if that helps.

They said passworded channels remain for 24hours after the last person leaves the channel. With a popular channel like EQtraders, finding a 24 hour span with zero people in the channel is pretty close to impossible. So in practicality, the channel will only dissappate when the chat server is taken down.
