  • Swatches: Spell Research and Tailoring related

I chose to put this in the general forum because it deals with both spell research and with tailoring.

The recent patch on Nov 5, 2003 changed the prices (both buy and sell) of many of the swatches researched for tailoring. So far, I have found only one swatch which sells to merchants at the same price as before the patch. It is no longer profitable to buy research components from merchants and to sell the swtches to merchants. Well, at least for the swatches I have experimented with listed below, but I suspect it is true for all swatches. In the chart below, most of the column headings should be self explanatory.

Cost is how much it cost to buy the research component from a merchant.
SwCost is how it cost for the component plus 0.208 for the cost of the quill and parchment.
SwSell is how much the swatch sells to merchants.
SwBuy is how much you have to pay to buy the swatch from a merchant.

For al lthose that benefitted by making a profit from making swatches, tell yourselves it was good while it lasted. (But you had to know this was coming.)

If you use dropped research components instead of vendor mining them, you should still make a profit, since you've eliminated the cost of buying that component from the vendor.

Why Lilosh? As he said in the second paragraph, it's not profitable anymore. Why would that get fixed?

And later on, please remind me to edit in the swear words I'm thinking towards whoever changed this.

As tradeskills go, you're pretty lucky to be able to make skillups cheaply. Seems like these things now sell back for 95 percent of storebought cost. I wish darkwood bows and solstice robes did as well.

I find this just normal. It's rare to find anything anywhere in EQ where you can get more than 95% of the value back from a merchant.

Wait, you mean people might actually sell swatches in the Bazaar now instead of just dumping them on a vendor?

Wait, you mean people might actually sell swatches in the Bazaar now...
See the list at the top. Every one of the lines which has a price to merchant was and for the most part still is on my bazaar mule. Some have sold. I started selling them in bazaar as soon as one of my INT casters got high enough in research to make them.

My first day selling them was Aug 7, 2003. At that time, the price for my swatches in bazaar was 10pp each. Since the patch adjust the prices, I have changed some of the prices of my swatches.

                  Bah...

I promise you, people selling in the bazaar will ask 10 times what the Merchants were charging for those swatches.

Hmm.. all the swatches i made, and i never checked to see what a npc would buy it for... oh well. I do know they used to sell them for like 50 plat. Personally, they don't seem to sell real well in bazaar, but they take up space so my mule has something.

With low 80s CHA, I saw one merchant selling swatches for almost 80p apiece. Max CHA couldn't have helped the price beyond 65p I think.

Before the 11/5 patch, all the research swatches had the vendor price of 52p and some odd change, if I remember correctly. Not sure if it's different now.
