  • Raising Wis for a Barb Rogue

So I've started hitting the expensive part of tradeskilling and I see all these reports of people getting multiple skillups per stack of combines where I get maybe 1 per stack or worse.

I went through the bazaar when I started tradeskilling and purchased only about 500pp of equip and got my wis up to 130ish ... 155 with KEI.

Should I just bite the bullet and start buying items with lots of wis and spending all those thousands of plat with the expectancy that it will save me money in the long run? So far I have about 20k in the bank total (trades and for any equip I buy) and:

    10 wis/50 cha - GM Assassin Vial
10 wis - Testament of Vanear
6 wis - Spine Chill Spear
5 wis - leaf scale gloves
    5 wis - Chitinous Belt
    3 wis/4 cha - Acrylia Reinforced Mask

Maybe another item or two, can't remember. Should I bite the bullet and buy stuff or just wade through tradeskills at a slower rate. Time or amount of combines is not an issue for me, but total cost is.

You can get wis gear pretty cheap...acrylia studded is super cheap and don't forget about 7 wis rings, JC'ed veil...

Or get friendly with some druids/clerics/shamans/bst's who have droppable wis gear they can loan you or have in the bank...

But I think if you want skill ups, it's worth a few K on getting wis or int (whichever route you go) up higher.

        Agreed. Get that WIS up!

Acrylia armor, 7wis rings 9wis neck

I'm not that familiar with what rogues can wear as far as WIS gear, but those two suggestions alone should boost your WIS substantially.

        Good luck!

Might look into picking up a Emerald Dragonscale Tunic perhaps. 20 wisdom in one slot will be a huge help! ( Not sure how much on your server though, most older stuff has gone down dramatically in price though lately )

Spine chill spear for the primary - relatively cheap now, +6 Wis, (EDITED: Doh! Didn't see that you had mentioned this!)

            Elder wolf hide +4 wis

Several inexpensive bows now (since Gunthak is old news) are droppin in price.

Bracelet of sence +15 wis (not cheap, though)

There are plenty of +3 - +5 wis gear pretty cheap, and when you multiply that by 6 slots, thats +18 - +30.

Don't forget the +3 wis earrings, with all the JC'ers out there now, they're cheap as anything.

I also have a +9 shield (charred guardian shield, perhaps?).

Right now, my wis (when I have all my wis gear on) is around 215, next time I'm on I'll try to remember to post what I have, hopefully it will help out a fellow large Rogue.

                some ideas...

I reached the same point that you did and stopped tradeskilling for a little while to get my wis up. Here's the suit that I ended up with:
                Kentarre's Smart Suit
(I think most if not all of those pieces are rogue wearable...)

to come up with this suit, I just went into the bazaar and searched by slot to see what kind of wis I could get for each slot and went from there. There are three sort of expensive pieces there: Boots were 1.8k, Eye was 2k and Tunic was 3k (I bought the pieces and did the turnin myself) But you can put together a pretty good suit by staying under 1k for each slot. and when you're facing the prospect of upper level tradeskilling, I think a few k of investment in wis will more than make up for itself... but that's just my 2cp

                Good luck!

Kentarre - that's a great site you have; I wish I'd had it when I was building up.

Guiscard finally has 255 wisdom (off of a naked base of 87) even withough a wisdom buff or stat food. I can post what I use for you to consider for alternate, once I get access to my magelo. I can even swap out my main for a geerlok if I am willing to get a buff or use a food or drink item; my goal is to get to 255 with geerlok without food or buff so that nervous feeling of remembering to chug some Pods of water can go away.

One thing I will say, though, is it is a lot more expensive to get those last 30 than everything else, and when i was first tradeskilling, with Wisdom around 150-180, I was foolish not to get to 220 with the affordable stuff. So by all means, if you plan to tradeskill, you will save a ton of money by spending money upfront -- fewer combies is good.

Plus, it's really not spending, it's investing. If you ever felt the need to sell the stuff, the high WIS stuff, in general, won't lose too much value to other tradeskillers.

Okay here are some things I have in slots that might cost a bit but help push up your wisdom:

Ear: Earring of the Solstice. This is one of the few items I use in everday AND Tradeskill work. It was +4 or +5 for me when i got it, like 20 levels ago, and now it is +8. Costs 4K on my server but it's just a great item.

Ear: Fang Shaped Stone Earring: +5. I got this for 500pp.

Neck: Lotus Vine Necklace is +9 wisdom, but is not rogue equipable. Before that I had a Black Alloy Medallion for +5 at 300pp or less.

Head: Tigeraptor Cap, +8, also not rogue wearable. if you are too young for the Metal crown, Othmir Fur Caps (+6) are usually extremely cheap, as they are on the tailoring skill path.

Wrists: I search the bazaar every day for "gonh" which brings up the dragonhorn bracers. I have a +8 (worked) and a +10 (heavy) which cost 500pp and 1000pp, but those were good deals. Still, you can get decent wisdom on the wrist without going up to the bracelet of Sense. These also add CHA which makes it slightly less cumbersome to swap out for buying.

Hands: Moss Covered Handwraps. I had leaf-scale gloves for a very long time but bit the bullet to boost Wis to +7. This cost 2K, maybe even 3K. It was what got me to 255, though, so I was willing to spend.

Shoulder: Mantle of Ill Omen. This is rare enought hat there almost almost never 2 on the market. Thus I have seen it for 1.5K (and failed to grab it), for 2K (that's what I paid) and then up to 4K. +8 Wis on the shoulder is hard to get, so if you see this and meet the rec level, splurge.

Arms: Blood Weave Amice. Not common, but not expensive when you find it. +5 Wis, and it costs around 500pp.

Legs: I have Hideous Chain Leggings at +6, and it only cost 1,500pp. I use these as my everyday legging, though I hope to upgrade these soon. I think these are pretty rare, though, but they are Rogue wearable with Rec level of 50.

I would recommend a slight switch on how Kentarre arranges her weapon slots. I have the griffon in my range slot, and have the Testament of Vanear (only +1 more than her shield) in the secondary. This lets me put, when I need to a Stained Axe of the Scions in my main, with a +9(of 10). However, that's ranger only. I used to use the Razor-Edged Shantok, at +8. That's got a rec of 45 but is Rogue-usable.

The rest I think is equiavlent to Kentarre. The key would be if you could do a lot of LDoN and get a wisdom drop -- maybe you can convince the Wis casters that they really need you to skill up so you can give them nice tradeskilled gifts.

hehe, that site is what you get when a webmonkey has too much free time I just wanted a nice reference of what skillup suit Kentarre has and magelo doesnt work for my Mac OS / Safari browser world...

Anyway, my site just shows you what Ive been able to find for Kentarre. I'm also on Tallon Zek, so I dont think we have as full of an economy as a blue server...

I cant agree with this enough. Most of the gear I picked up was really cheap. It will depend on your budget and starting wis and all, but I found getting to 200+ quite easy. Makes me slap my forhead to think of all the time I spent trying to skill up fletching (eons ago) with basically my base wis. DOH! Anyway, spend as much money as your comfortable with and get that wis up somewhat. It wont hurt I promise

And don't be afraid to ask the WIS folks in your guild for hand-me-downs or borrows....for example, a lot of priests will have the +15 wis bracelet of sense which they may switch for a resist bracer, etc. or whatever who might not have a problem with you borrowing it once in a while. =)

Ok, added a few and got my wis up to 177ish unbuffed (I think), but I KNOW I have 202 with KEI. Any other suggestions on items that are fairly cheap (1K or less) that I could use to get my wis up a bit more? Here is a direct link to my wis profile: Koer's Wis Gear

Any help you guys could give would be most appreciative ... did about 200 patty melts last night and the difference was amazing in how fast the skill ups came.

Pieces I'm looking at after reading the thread:
(Earring 1) Fang Shaped Stone Earring
                          (Arms) Blood Weave Amice
(Mainhand) GM Brewing Trophy (Just need to get up the courage to attempt it rofl)

Barbarian Rogue here i would say yes its worth getting the kit for your wisdom in the long run for skilling. i hunted, brought, begged, borrowed n stole to raise my wisdom; even became a slave to paying for Kei.

i now have an unbuffed wisdom of 305 through spending AA and a good tradeskilling kit. imo its been well worth it.
