  • Tradeskill items with no known recipes

Apologies for reposting this question but the thread I posted it in got locked before anyone answered it.

I was thinking about trying to do some experiments to attempt to find some of those elusive "undiscovered recipes". I know the EQTraders database has some tradeskill items that are listed as having no known recipe, so my question was: is there any way to pull up a list of them?

Then I got thinking about the whole "bruteforce recipe" thing, and I thought as I was planning on doing it anyway, would it be a good idea to have a list somewhere about what is confirmed to not work as recipes. (No, I don't mean adding non-recipes to EQTraders' database, can you imagine the work? But instead dedicate a thread to one of those components so people can list what they've found (or not)) Would anybody be interested in something like that?

just start a dnc list for something. i would suggest scaler myself. say this is tradeskill tagged but what the heck is it used for? tried scaler +
    fow
    fow and needle mold
    fow and fresh fish
fow, smithy hammer, and 3 small peice ore

in container, forge, oven, mixing bowl, collapsed spit, pottery wheel.

the list is pretty nonsense cause i haven't done it but you can try. if anything eats you scaler remember the recipe and that will be something that might work if you dont produce anything. might also be returned as an alternate product.

if you get someone bored enough to group with you while you do this, and you DO find an undiscovered recipe, they will see a message of:

      "Soandso has fashioned a Thingy!"

and if you fail, they see something like:

"Soandso failed to fashion a Thingy."

So then you know. Unless they've changed it...

Just fyi, there are already threads in brewing that have extensive records of work folks have already done on Brodder and Lewena's quests. If you're aiming at a particular skill, those discussions should go in the relevant forums.

            Re: Scaler

Scale(1): N. Definition 6a: A flaky oxide film formed on a metal, as on iron, heated to high temperatures. 6b: A flake of rust.

Seems like a scaler in the real-wrold context of smithing is a device for removing "scale" from items. I doubt that it is anything used for fishing.

Wierd... I hear the word "scaler" and I think of my little silver fish shaped object with little teeth on one side, that I use for removing scales from fish. Actually, is that technically a DE-scaler?

OK thanks for the replies, I hadn't seen the DNC lists in the forums you mention but I've found them now, so I'm going to print em out, and get going
