  • Skilling up a forage bot

Howdy. Quick question for the class. I started a L1 wood elf druid purely for the purpose of foraging (all my alts are "utility" alts like this that never really get played outside of their "job").

For the purposes of how far I should bother levelling him, is forage a level capped skill? If so, what level would I need to drag him to in order to max his forage (if the answer to the previous question is "No" he will remain a L1 forever)?

    Thanks for any info.

I'm not a druid, but as far as I know, forage is level capped at the standard (5*level)+5. Being a woodelf you start at 50, so you *probably* need to level a bit before you can start to raise it (although occasionally racial skills progress oddly - like iksars and swimming).

Since forage caps at 200, I *think* that would mean you could be maxed at level 39.

Hopefully a real druid (or other class forager) can correct me on this if I'm wrong

Dunthor, you are correct. Foraging is level capped.

Stugein - since you have a druid, you have it 'easy'. If you are patient and know where and how to level, and have anything above the 'dubious' faction to the druid class, you can level a druid to a decent foraging skill level fairly fast.

A friend of mine did it like this:

Wood elf druid of Tunare, on the second account so he could 2bx. Helped the druid get the Tunare's Initiate Necklace (look it up on alla's, I've never done it), which is a clicky manaless druid root, therefore a damaging root.

Tanked GFay till 6, grouped/soloed in Crushbone till 15, PC till 20-something, and after that, explored various zones, as the ports were opening places up. The nice thing about that necklace, and the manaless root that comes with it... he pulled a mob with snare, clicky rooted it, loaded the dots on, medded till root broke or he was FM, then stood and clicked the mob to death. XP. Boring as crap xp, but xp.

He had his forage linked to a movement key, and sense heading to the other. The clicky root idea will work on mobs till mid 30s, at which point forage is almost maxxed. He just soloed the last few levels, snare dot dot dot dot kite med kite dot dot kite med die XP.

I have heard that at skill 200 (level 39), fail to forage is something like .1 percent. I am a druid, and tho I have not done the math, it is a rare rare forage when I DON'T get something on my cursor. Now, whether it's the thing you WANT is another matter entirely. ^_^ But there will be something there. (Stay out of pok unless you REALLY LIKE ROOTS. I mean, REALLY.)

So, hope that helps. That XP path is really quite dependant on that neck, which means taking down high 20s/low 30s (??) mobs, so you'd really have to get it twinked for you, but, there's my answer for you.

And just so you know: The forage button resets once every 30 sec or such. If you're doing this JUST TO FORAGE, bring along something else to do. Like, fishing. And then bake with the fish. I dunno. Foraging for the sake of foraging is OBSCENLEY DULL.

      Yeah, gonna shut up now.

traded 1 MTP for 1 Veggie a few days ago in pok... I put all my Veggies on my trader and FOR ONCE THEY ALL SOLD??? Gah! Right when I needed them too. And since I was in pok baking, of COURSE all I got was Root, Root, Root. Grrrr.
Hm, I need to find something to do that needs Fruits and Berries, so they'll sell off the dumb trader and then I'll have some space.... ^_^

All good advice so far but here are couple other thoughts:

Once you can get into LDoN groups, do so. The experience is great and the temper components are far, far, more common forages than drops.

Consider getting a Foraging Machette which adds 10% to your skill. It's a simple foraging quest out of Katta Castellum and, what the heck, if you're practicing foraging it might as well pay off a little.

I agree with both Don and Sanna (I can't remember the last time I failed a forage - even forgot you could fail).

Anyway, depending on what you're looking to forage, some levels and places I would suggest:

Cobalt Scar (food for baking, fishing cobalt cods for tailoring and/or selling)

and if you get your forager up to 46, Plane of Growth for the occ. branch of planar oak (or whatever it is), as well normal foraging for baking/brewing as well as fishing for baking.

The cupcake is DONE! 1750!!! And 7 Trophies! And a fishing pole! That summons beer! Woo! And Tarteene, the enchanting gnomish tinkerer of the 247th bolt and one neato Tinkering Trophy

              Foraging Machette

There is a quest in Katta Castellum, that is for a +10% forage sword. The 'Foraging Machette'. If you are going to forage with a toon and nothing else with it, you might want to quest one. It is easy, only requires a few forages be brought to her, I think 4. Semi rare forages tho.
