  • Wish someone could see your tradeskill rank!

I wish that when someone clicked you, in the description they could see the unmodified tradeskill values.

This would be cool to separate those who say they have 250 from those who really do (unmodified)

Wouldn't be that hard to do, either ... I don't think.

Just add something cheap on a vendor for around 1sp or less, call it a Blank Mark (similar to a Blank Emblem).
Make it a no fail combine in any container, which produces a no drop mark with the skill of the crafter. Would only need 251 new objects ... and to change the tradeskill spam msg. so that the group also sees which container the person succeded or failed in.

    Instead of seeing ...
Soandso succesfully made a Metal Bit.
Soandso was not succesful in making a Clump of Dough.

    Change to include container...
Soandso succesfully made a Metal Bit in a Forge.
Soandso was not succesful in making a Clump of Dough in a Collapsed Mixing Bowl.

I wouldn't think it'd be that hard to add the name of the container to the combination message spam.

Then you could have something like ...
Soandso succesfully made a 250 Skill Makers Mark in a Forge. (proving they are a 250 smith).
    ... or ...
Soandso succesfully made a 242 Skill Makers Mark in a Planar Sewing Kit. (proving they aren't a 250 tailor, but may only be a 242 w/geerlok, etc.)
    ... or ...
Soandso succesfully made a 87 Skill Makers Mark in a Jewelry Kit.

Once you add the container to the combine message, then it can be a universal recipe for any combine container, and a cheap and easy way to prove to someone seeking your tradeskill services, that you *are* the skill lvl you claim to be.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course, once you've gone that far though, might as well ask Sony to make the marks an augment, and have them add type 9 augment slots to every tradeskill item armor/jewelry/weapon ... so tradeskillers could put that makers mark into a type 9 aug slot, which couldn't be removed with a solvent.

Then, when you were shopping for low grade jewelry in bazaar, etc ... you could feel better buying the pieces tagged by an aspiring 97 Maker, instead of the un-marked or 250 marked, since you'd be funding someones JC career, etc.

    Just 2cp.

250 is 250 with or without geerlok, unless someone can prove a diffrence in success rate otherwise =)

I was merely proposing a means to see someones *unmodified* skill ....

Just because someone tells you they are 250, and links a trophy, doesn't mean they didn't get a lucky RNG and make their trophy at 214 skill, etc.

Tradeskill hard cap is above 250, like it or not. 245 + geerlok > 250.

Please, no. I wouldn't mind having a way to show someone my tradeskill levels, as long as I choose when they can see them, but the thought of random people inspecting the ranger running through PoK, seeing that I'm a GM fletcher, and bugging me for combines makes me shudder.

Well... instead of the skills being visible All the time... add in a character flag (like Anonymous, Roleplay... that is Crafter)... that allows you to show, or hide your crafting skills.

Adding ANOTHER item (or items) that you have to keep space for... not to mention bother to obtain, and combine... is just annoying. If people won't trust that I state I have my Tailoring Skill at XXX... they why should they trust me to do a combine in the first place? They are gonna give me the items anyway.

Two easy things they could do.

1.Make a command you could type that tells you the skill of the person targeted.

                /tar Malodium
                /skill smithing

                returns..

"Malodium has a skill of 250 smithing"

                2. Modify your char screen to include all skills. Anyone who inspects you can scroll down your list just like you can.
Some people might not care to have people looking at all thier skills though, so it could just be tradeskills.

Personally I just tell someone to go jump in a lake if they want to question my skill in a tradeskill =). I could care less if I make something for them or not. If I cared to prove it tho I'd just point em at my magelo profile with the nice little gold authentic logo =)

I just have my skills listed in my inspection box character profile. So when people inspect me they see the skills listed. I have inspects off, and nearly every day I see someone say "Whoa, Quesci" and I have no idea why until they ask about tradeskills.

I'm with Taraddar, though, about someone questioning my skills. Anyone can put 250 to all in their bio window, but if someone chooses to not believe me then it is their loss.

Quesci, I LOVE that sig =:P

Being a nut, and shooting for the 1750 club myself, I would like an automatic command or some way for someone to 'see' your skill.

                      250 Tailor, Brewer, Potter, Jewelcrafter

                      232 Fletcher

Heck they could make it so that you are the one who can choose to reveal your skill to someone with a target command.

You target someone and type /showskill 1, where a number is assigned to each tradeskill. Then when you hit enter the person sees your skill level.

So say that skill 1 is tailoring. I target someone and type /showskill 1 and they see..."Veldin's Tailoring Skill is (230)

They could add a toggle command to ignore /showskill commands unless you want them to be seen. /showskill on/off. That would prevent someone spamming someone else.

This should be pretty simple for them to do.

                          ....... "Chuckles the Great"?

                          o_0

Showing raw skill would rock. Showing raw skill/augmented skill would rock more. If they do something like this, it HAS to be MY choice to show it tho, for exactly the reason the fletcher man stated. I don't need people bugging me about buying Lotus Pies for Solstice, just because my baking skill is that high, etc etc ad foreverum.

Making something by combining in containers that causes a certain message to be displayed to the group certainly fits with a roleplaying aspect, but honestly... why have to 'go' somewhere to prove yourself when you can do it sitting in front of your client? (Also, this comes to mind b/c I play on Sullon, so, for example, since I can't group with a Gnome, this method would not benefit me if I want to know that the Gnome I'm hiring really does have a high Tinkering skill.)

Therefore, Veldin's idea seems the most efficient. I target you and opt to show MY skill, and only to you. YOU have the option of turning this on or off, so some evil buttmunch doesn't target my bazaartrader and spam:
                          "Imanidiot's Tailoring skill is 0."
                          "Imanidiot's Tailoring skill is 0."
                          "Imanidiot's Tailoring skill is 0."
                          "Imanidiot's Tailoring skill is 0."
                          "Imanidiot's Tailoring skill is 0."

Also, for geerloks or trophies... I'd have to have the geerlok equipped first, but I assume the server could detect that and return a message like this:

"Iroke's Baking skill is 231. Her Geerlok modifies this skill to be 242."
                          or
"Iroke's Baking skill is 231. Her Baking Trophy modifies this skill to be 242."

Hm.... what about the ability to show your entire group your skill? Would that make it too complicated?
                          Maybe:
                          /showskillgroup 1

(For that matter, /showskillguild 1. *anticipates spammage there ~_~*)

You know... the more I think about this, the better the idea in general looks, to be able to truely prove what skill I have.

I figure since they can't do maker marks this would be the next best thing.

In Ultima Online I loved maker marks. The only problem with them was that nobody ever purchased anything without one (because they knew only a grandmaster produced item had marks).

FYI: In UO I had a grandmaster smith ALT and my assassin was a grandmaster alchemist/poisoner. I ruled with deadly poison back in the day (but sacrificed 100 points towards alchemy)

you could always give them your magelo number (or have it posted in your inspect window). if your profile is marked authentic (and recent), that should work as a decent method, although it isn't totally "in-game". *shrug*
