  • Shawl #1-7 and augmentations

Someone just asked on TNZ about this and I realised that this might actually be a real issue.

Has anyone tried using augmentation items on Shawls #1-7?

Will the shawls still combine with an augmentation item in them?

If you've got a 7th shawl that you've already used to pop the Dain, if you put an augmentation item into it, then remove it, will that reset your shawl so that you can pop the Dain with it indefinately.

Also, what about the Coldain Ring quest rings - do they suffer simular possible problems as the shawls?

    Interesting question.

    I have another.

If I augment my 4th shawl, can I still turn it in for the 5th? If so, does the 5th come back augmented, or do I have to agument it all over again? It would seem logical to me that you would wait until you get the last shawl you're going to get before you augment it.

    Same with the ring.

I'm pretty sure that you would lose the augmentation if you turned in the shawl to an NPC.
My proof for this is the chardok quest ring that you turn in to an NPC to get it's dmg shield clicky effect recharged and that ring does not have any augmentation slots, so I guess items that are meant to be turned in to an NPC didn't get slots for the very reason of losing augments and the shawls might be just an oversight.

The source to EQ is a closed book to us BUT we can make best guesses, so here goes:

Guess: yes. Recipes work off item IDs; the whole augmentation system hasn't changed item IDs

Guess: probably not. The 'regular' and 'approved by the Dain' 7th shawls are different items, with different IDs; they just have exactly the same stats. Augment and unaugment the 'approved' shawl and it is still the 'approved' shawl.

            Actually, that's not quite correct.

Current belief is that if an item is Rechargable, it can't have an Augmentation on it.

See the Gnomish Cultural stuff for an example of this.

Still doesn't explain why my Fungi doesn't have an Augmentation Slot on it...

You have 19 other items to put augments on, why would you waste one on shawl 1-7, knowing you will be turning it in for an upgrade in the near future anyway?

Admittedly, #1-6 are certainly not worth wasting a gem on due to thier stats and the (relative) ease of upgrading, however, #7 is certainly a different story all together.

It took me several months to organise a 8th shawl walk with my guild - we had switched over to giant faction at that time and it was some time before enough people had gotten all of the Kael armor that they wanted before they were willing to start taking giant faction hits to do this walk - many guild members who had aquired their 7th before me, but weren't as aggressive were either still working on the 8th or also had #8 all ready for thier walk but hadn't been able to put together a walk either.

So it is conceivable that many folks, due to time, levels or faction issues might decide to put thier 8th on hold for a time and make due with the 7th.
