Foraging can only be done be certain races and classes. Iksar and wood elves have a natural forage ability, and rangers, druids, and bards get the skill later on.

Some confusion is caused by the fact that blacksmithing uses a "forge" and so might be thought of as "forging" while digging up roots and berries and bits of rabbit meat is "foraging" with an "a" in the middle, and has nothing to do with smithing.

I suppose one way to get these if you are a race/class without foraging skills is to start an alt with a base level of foraging, like a new wood elf. Other than that, you need to look for junk dumped on NPC merchants or shop at your local Bazaar.

On E`ci, cinnamon has a vibrant market and just when you need some, it can suddenly be expensive (I forage my own but wanted a few extra for cultural needles and ended up paying 8pp apiece for my last 8). Vegetables and Fruit sell, but slowly and at low prices (5 gold or so per item, occasionally 1 to 1.5 plat).

with occasion to call upon Gnomedeguerre, 16th-level Wizard, Master Tinker, E`ci (Tunare)

and in shouting range of Vassl Ofguiscard, 73rd-level Enchanter, GM Jewelcrafter, E`ci (Tunare)

Gonna spell this one out since it has been ignored...

Forging - the art of using a forge

              F O R *A* G I N G - scrounging stuff up to eat/drink.

Prety huge difference there, please pay attention.

I realize that it was pointed out ealier. And then it was either not noticed or ignored. I figured it needed to be pointed out in a more direct and less friendly way a second time.

I'm sorry if this comes across as being peevish, but intentional misspellings drive me insane... He might as well have said something like...

                  Y r u forging n I no?

Just a simple peeve of mine. Though this one is the top of my list...
