  • Skill up problems!

Im 250 in baking, brewing, pottery, jewelcraft, and fletching atm. I have been doing smithing and my current skill is 202. I make sure to get shaman buffs (Fo7, PE, tali, brute) to cover my "failure rate" and have c3 since im a chanty myself. My stats are as follows: (buffed) str-276 sta-255 dex-266 agi-231 wis-247 int-305 chr-252..

My skill ups are rare to none. I get about 2 skill ups per 100. And I noticed as im GMing more , my skill ups are taking longer ~ Meanwhile my friends are flying through getting 8 skill ups per 80 doing the same combines at the exact same skill level?

Any ideas what I could be doing wrong at this point?
The only tradeskill I have left to GM is tailoring. And If Its gonna take on this kind of skill up success rate, Ill need to enroll some form of anger management in RL. :/

Though others think this is mythology, it's one of two or three myths I actually subscribe to because I have seen it. Mid-180s to 220 seems to be a "hell level" range where the average number of attempts per skillup is unusually high.

That said, you can also have really, really bad luck with the RNG and really, really good luck. I did 105 combines to get from 194 to 195 in smithing, and then did 238 to get from 196 to 197. Then, doing LDoN armor, I got from 197 to 205 in about 133 combines.

Smithing is frustrating and tailoring is worse.

Go find that anger management class now.

Um... again... you only get skill up rate from the HIGHER (highest) of INT/WIS/STR. Period. (this is to allow people who actually WEAR armor to have decent chances to MAKE it for themselves)

Success rate is purely a function of skill (plus modifiers like geerlok) and is not effected by STR. Since my enc hovers around 90+ percent success rates on skilling up with smithing with a STR that's -shockingly- below 276 I can state this with confidence.

That aside ... ouch. Makes me almost glad I won't ever see the elemental planes. I never have to worry about trying to get all 7 skills to 220 plus since I won't be doing Aid Grimel quest. Good luck and keep your chin up.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

          skill ups

This may just be supersticion but i have found that if i have one of the attributes maxed or over i have a lousy skill up rate. For example in fletching, i was routinly getting buffed to max (255) for this then went for 137 combines from 213-214. Took off a few items and got my dex down to 253 and had 3 skill ups in 27 tries. This happend over about 6 skill up sessions, not all at once. With the exception of the last 3. I wonder if there is a rollover bug that comes into play if you go over your max.
