  • Ideal Skillup Skill Gap

Does anyone have a formula for the FASTEST way to skillup in terms of the delta between one's skill level and the trivial level of the item being tried.

Originally, I guessed that a gap of 30 levels made sense. E.G., if my pottery was 62 then trying an item with a trivial of 92 would yield the minimum number of attempts per skillup. Lately, a 62 Mage told me that the sweet spot was between 17 and 20 levels higher than one's skill.

Clearly, for some skills (esp JC) this is pretty important since the levels follow each other in $$ order with trivials also going in small steps.

    Thanks,

There is no proven "Sweet Spot" that will make the skill up fly past. There is alot of speculation but nothing proven. This is derived from the theory that people skill up more on successes then failures but this is speculation also

In short do what recepies you like. If it makes you feel better to stay within 30 points then do it that way. because I guarentee you there will be at least one skill up that will take 100+ combines.

I personally like to stay about 50 levels under triv.

It depends on which tradeskill that I was working on and how much I was willing to spend. For tailoring, I made woven mandrake from 21 to 66, because it was easiest for me to do that way. Pottery, I picked medium bowls, and made them from 21 to they trived at 122 or so. For brewing, I made fetid essence from 21 til it trived at 122 or so. For jewelcrafting, though, I make things that are a few levels higher than my current skill. Once that trivs, then I move to the next item. With a geerlok, this helps keep my successes at a decent level. Selling back a success gives you almost as much as the components cost, so that helps keep the overall expenditure down.

Whenever I felt "stuck" in pre-200 baking, I would switch to something with a trivial within 10 points. It seemed to help, but it's hard to know for sure. Zeralynn's brewing tests seem to back me up to stay close to trivial, but she stayed fairly low in skill level in her tests.
