  • Max Skill with Modifiers?

I recently got my hands on a Hammer of the Ironfrost (+15% Smithing) and I am looking for some info on where skill lvls max out w/ modifiers. I have read that max skill w/ modifiers is either 252 or 255. Can anyone confirm and/or give reasons as to why?

If the Max skill is 255, is there any reason for me to get my skill beyond 222 in order to reap the benefits of having a +15% item?

    My current skill is 212.

    Thank you

252 is the max skill allowed. It appears that the values of 253, 254 and 255 are reserved as "special markers" of some sort, though it's unclear as to what they are.

There's no reason to skill up higher than when you reach that skill, other than prestige. Or, in the unlucky case you lose the skill modifier.

Aye, 252 is the maximum effective skill.

So, that puts you at max effective skill at 220.

      220+ 5%= 231

      220+10%= 242

      220+15%= 253

Congrats on your hammer! And good luck on your last 8 points to reach maximum effective skill!

I've seen various numbers batted around for the max effective skill. Care to elaborate on how you know that 252 is actually the max? I'm not asking for guesses, I can guess as well as anyone else, looking for more concrete information.

Is it based on extensive research of failure/success rates at various levels of skill with a skill enhancer?

          This is slightly incorrect.

252 is the maximum for "combat skills".

Though verant did say at a fan faire that 252 was the cap for trade skills, They retracted that statement 2-3 days later publicly and stated that 255 was the skill cap for trade skills.

In otherwords, backstab and bash are caped at 252, but brewing is caped at 255.

The actual post stating this is archived somewhere on castersrealm, quite a while ago now back when luclin had only been live for a little while

That sounds like the best evidence for what the cap is I have heard. Of course, they have been known to be wrong about their game in the past.....

              One link

Here is one link where it is implied/stated that it is 255, but i'm still looking for the one that first retracted the fan faire report that so many around here cling to that said it was 252.

We have been talking about several ideas to address this stuff. One of which is raising the existing skill caps above 255 through recoding.
              and this q/a

Will we ever have a way to reset tradeskill specialization?

I don’t think so. It’s not really a good thing to do considering the costs of raising some of the skills. We’d rather look more into the advanced tradeskills route and then allowing more (or all) of the existing tradeskills going up to 255.
