  • The Market Place...

Yes, this is about the marketplace forums, but it's more a question for the mods, as well as a challenge for those who use these forums... so i put it here, as there is no "general" market place forum.

There have been several posts in the past about the lack of traffic that the market forums recieve, and even though i personally use them as often as cicadia hatch, marketing ones wares is something all of us do, wether aggressively, or passively.

I've looked over a couple of the different server forums, and noted that a few have "server tradeskillers" threads on them; ones that someone basically says.. "post here if you're a tradeskiller; how good you are at what."

While those threads seem simple in their use, beings as people can update theie own posts, these would be a huge boon to people looking for tradeskillers available on their specific servers... many people simply don't know they are there, and in some cases, the threads may not exist for each server.

Soooooo... the first part of the thought is a question to the moderators.

If such a thread was posted in each server forum, or as in the case of Sol Ro sever (i think), a thread for each different tradeskill for the server.... would it be possible to have such thread(s) stickied?

Overuse of stickies is always something to shy away from, but in this case, i think it would help new people immediately see a list of active tradeskillers on their servers. It'd help the tradeskillers in advertising, and it would be especially helpful to people new to these forums, who once they hit their server forum, they're greeted from the start by a list of people who can help on their server.

Not much else is stickied in those forums, so i don't think overuse would become a problem... it'd just be a little work to have those threads initially stuck in place.

The second part of this is a challenge for each person that comes to these forums with any regularity. Knowledge is power. If we took just a few minutes each week to throw out a couple /ooc'd messages on our servers, asking for tradeskillers to come to the market forums and post their skills, and maybe pick up some business, those threads would soon become a very viable list that would make life easier on everyone involved. Pass through a populated zone, give out an /ooc... that's not too hard.

It's just a thought. What it would take is all of us becoming a little bit more involved in getting people to know what resources are available to them, and whi knows, maybe we'll all make a couple plat out of it, and maybe cut down a little on some frustrations of new people here who are just looking for a combine.

The downside to those threads is that they can be rather time intensive. I'm personally waiting for Kaidian to pop online so I can nudge him into updating as it is mainly his pet project--however, his guild disbanded recently, and he may simply not play anymore. He's the only one who seems to stand leafing through multiple pages of posts, checking edited posts as well for updates, which is too much of a hassle for me--I apply liberal usage of the delete button when updating--but if he doesn't update soon, I'll have to do it myself, as the main problem with having them stickied is when the person currently does them just abandons doing so without warning, which has happened a couple times for the Sol Ro ones.

      Re: The Market Place...

To get a sticky in the Marketplace forums, all people have to do is start one and get it going and drop a note in DenMum's Corner asking for it to be stickied. That's how the ones you see stickied now got to be that way. Only the moderators can edit or delete posts by other people, but the person who starts it can edit the first post to compile information.

Does that cover what you were asking?

        Aye, it helps.

I use both tactics with our guild boards.. cumulative posts where a single person keeps them updated, which i firmly agree would be too time, and energy, conusming for here... and simply athread of individual posts, which allows peopel to keep up their own information, which would be a much easier way to go for these forums.

That way, the workload is shifted to the individual posters, and the moderators time is freed up.

again, just a though.. thanks you two

Well, the moderators for the board have the power to sticky threads in the boards they moderate too--it doesn't have to go to Denmother's Corner (and thus cut down on things she needs to personally tackle).
