  • LDoN and tradeskills-fighting for components?

I've been sifting through the LDoN beta news-some on alchemy, some on smithing (Yay!).

I've noticed that both use at least one of the same components. Can any of the beta tradeskillers tell us if that's indeed the case-that many of the same components are used for the LDoN-era recipes in different tradeskills?

Of the current recipe books on beta, on the Magus(s):
One item overlap between Alchemy and Brewing.
Three items overlap between Brewing and Smithing.

Yeah, but you'll need a group to be able to farm stuff, and you'll only be able to farm for 90-120 minutes at a time.

Thank god! Farming mobs that drop exp is sooo much more fun than farming greenies all day long. And since I'm sure most of my friends won't mind farm...erm hunting in ldon getting components there will be even less of a pita since I'll have friends there with me to talk to.

Exactly. I'd prefer my tradeskill components to drop off non-greens.... EXCEPT that as a cleric, it's difficult to fight non-greens by myself (without a pantload of downtime)... and it's difficult to get groups to go so far out of the way to fight at the rare xp+tradekill camps.

This expansion seems to address that problem. I wont have any problem getting a group to go spelunking in the new dungeons with me .

Not to mention the mobs do not respawn, so you have to keep starting a new insance. The ldon drops for tradeskills (im anticipating) will be far from "farmable". You will get some here and there as you progress, and if you can get friends to save up what they find for you as well. But classic "farming" for supplies in ldon will be next to impossible as far as i can tell.

adventure points might buy the stuff as well though so you loot what drops and then buy more with adventure points. in the mean time you had fun with your buds who dont tradeksill and they didn't realize they were helping you do it either.

I forsee much farming of vendors in Wayfarer's Brotherhood camps.

I don't understand, how is it a person is going to loot tradeskill stuff? Wouldn't you have to /random for it, unless you go with a bunch of friends?

I suspect most of LDoN will be BYOGroup rather then pick up zones. That being the case there shouldn't be any problems sharing drops among friends/guildies.

Vendors used to have 80 displayed slots, and 10 more slots "under the table" that you couldn't see until you'd freed up one of the 80 visible slots. Reciently, those 10 hidden slots dissappeared.

There are a few other threads on that topic with more info (I forget which forums, but somewhere on EQTC :P), but that's the basics.

I'm not sure whether I like this or not ... tradeskill stuff dropping off xp mobs is nice because then you can actually get people to 'help you farm' and you can get other benifits (namely, xp) while supporting your tradeskill addiction. However, with the 4-person minimum you now can't solo farm them at *all*, and they never become mass farmable and always pose a threat. I'm hoping the whole "LoDN concept" will up my amount of grouping, but with most of my friends being 65s and a few others in their high 40s, as a 56 its going to be tough getting any sort of groups together without the content being significantly out-of-wack for somebody.

I'm getting the feeling I'm gonna be getting most of my LoDN tradeskill supplies secondhand

                              ***Disclaimer***
I've only been in a LDoN dungeon once so far, but here's my initial impression.
                              ***End Disclaimer***

IMHO, I don't think you'll really be able to use any of the new LDoN recipes as viable skill-up paths. Here's my reasoning - in the dungeon I went through, I did see some of the brewing components drop, but very few. Comparing that to the hundreds of combines you usually need for a decent skill up session, you would have to go through a few dozen adventures (with all the tradeskill component drops going just to you) just to be able to have one good tradeskill session. In addition, since the tradeskill components will be uncommon in the bazaar, if not rare, the prices will be pumped up on these if you want to buy them. Just look at the prices for swirling shadows!

Anyway, that's the way it looks to me. Anyone agree? Anyone think I'm way out of line? Lemme know what you think!

                              Thanks,
