  • Quick Question

Just a short question for the veteran tradeskillers here....

I currently have a 65 rogue, the only reason i leveled him to 65, was to not have to worry about grinding anymore, so i want to take up a tradeskill while i play and talk with the people ive met over the years.

I was wondering if i should take up Blacksmithing due to his high str, but being a halfling, he has no cultural, or should i give all his plat to my cleric(34, 251 wis, also halfling) and have him become a tailor?

I dont plan on making too much plat right now, just something to do untill i feel like grinding AA's.

I fail to see that as a short or quick question.

Nice to see you making folks welcome Lilosh.

Smacks, the best way to answer your question would be to do what you will enjoy most...especially if its somehow in character. From a technical standpoint, your cleric with the higher wis is a better candidate for either tradeskill, as the modifier you get for having a high str is still far less a factor than having high wis or int. From a skilling up stand point, smithing is generally considered somewhat easier than tailoring...but I believe Halflings have a cultural skill path for tailoring that balances it out.

I just want to add...if you are ever planning to do the Aid Grimel quest, do smithing first..it will help protect your sanity, lol.

      Hope any of this helps.

Awww... ya'll never let me have ANY fun.

I was just trying to show the lad that he might want to reconsider the way he should phrase his inquiries.

couple ways to make your decision.

try both smithing and tailoring and see which you enjoy more (best, in my opinion)

or take a look at the final results, to see if you'd use the stuff you make at all. (practical, but by the time i was able to make the stuff i wanted to smith for myself, i had better stuff already. and seeing how you're 65 and stuff...).

and, supposedly, smithing takes the highest of your STR/INT/WIS and bases your skillups on that. Supposedly

if you're just doing this as a fun diversion, you might consider dabbling in all the trades, just to see which you like best.

at 65, you can find enough int or wis gear for your rogue to have his very own "smart suit" and make him your tailor! i personally would do tailoring if i were a halfling. or baking. mmmm food. as a high elf i did smithing, even though that dang hammer is hard to swing and the heat from the forge makes me sweat. ew.

I think im going to do tailoring, but out of curiosity, how much am i looking to spend to just get to 200? should i start farming for plat now? or just do burst tailoring untill i come up with the plat?

How much you are going to spend on tailoring depends entirely on how much farming you are willing to do. So it's impossible to say how much that will be.

Tailoring can be reasonably cheap, ungodly expensive, and everything in between.

I know it sounds like it...but we arent trying to be intentionally vague. Both Smithing and Tailoring are very time consuming and very expensive. The good news is, if you farm most of what you need you can actually end up making money. To get an idea of what it will cost if you want to buy everything from bazaar/vendors...you can practice by taking 5k and tossing it on the ground, lol.

Just a quick correction to your statement about Halflings have no cultural smithing.

They have no HIGH END cultural smithing, but I used the cultural sewing kits to do some skilling. Bit of a pain since you need to get the ore in PoK, but I think it is cheaper. And, if you do Halfling tailoring as well, you're gonna need a kit anyway.

(I made a lot of newbs happy by passing out free 10-slot containers. A couple returned the favor with cheap leather padding when they decided they liked tailoring.)

I did tailoring to 250 and i estimate my costs to be around 500k that is with a lot of farming for components myself. A lot was spent on velium tempers alone (26pp a pop to lazy to brew them).
I also bought a lot of components in bazzar(pelts mostly spider silks always farmed wayyy over priced for the ease to get). I did as much acrylia as I could get components for and when all that trived out was black panther skins armor and artic wyvern mask((1 velium stud per but cost 52pp per stud not including paying for the velium pieces when I bought them(would up price to about 112pp per stud. 6x 20pp for pieces + 4 x 26pp for tempers to make 2 studs).

Just an idea of what you are getting yourself into hehe.

                        Good Luck

As stated above, you can do the vale sewing kits, they trivial at 162. You can get the ore in PoK, or you can farm the fs weapons to convert into pieces.

Then, if you worship Karana, you can do the new arrowheads to 188, provided that they haven't changed that trivial yet. Just got to SF and get your Mark of Karana, returned on fail or success, then hop over to the bazaar, and get a bunch of imbued Plains pebbles, then go back to SF to smith up your stuff.

No idea how to proceed after that, as I am not ready to go higher yet, or able to.
