I'm a paladin and am trying to max out all skills and languages. My only problem is that I can find no paladin trainer that teaches thieve's can't and dark speech. So I am unable to put the first point in either of those languages to learn the basics. I spoke with a fellow paladin last night that has both of those languages and he said that I can still learn them without putting the one point in there, to just do the normal language learning procedures. Anyone know if this is true?

aye don't waste training points on languages. Group up with a linguistic and turn off group chat. Have your friend spam the group with that text in that language and woila! you are learning! They've made language mastery much easier then back in the stone age when I did mine. You get auto-skillup messages without zoning or guessing!Tinile, 85th Druid of the Seventh Hammer

As far as I know, no trainer can train you in Dark Speech. It's a language spoken only on the PvP team servers (Tallon and Vallon) by members of the orange team (Dark Elves, Iksar, Trolls, Ogres). To learn it, you'd either need to be on one of those servers, or find someone who moved from one of those servers and had learned it (either by being dark team or by learning it on that server from a dark team member).
If you're on Tarew, I'd be glad to teach you myself.

In our quest to learn all the languages we also had a hard time with Thieves Cant and Dark Speech.
Our solution was to create a DE rogue iirc, grouped with it, got the first point, and from then on, we were on our own.
So you can learn it, and it goes up quickly (unlike Orcish)
So either create an alt on a second account or find a rogue -- should be pretty easy - and good luck !

haven't tried this recently, so maybe it was just a short term problem...
can you still leapfrog your skill up? After the patch where it changed the message from 'your language skills have increased' to 'Your have increased your skill in [Language]! (skill)', my roommate and I found that she was able to train me TO her exact skill... but I was never getting the point above it. We zoned back and forth a lot, and it never happened.
But if this is just a random fallacy, we'll try again. I wonder what would happen if I hailed Emperor Crush in perfect Orcish.
"Emperor Crush gives you an Othmir Prexus Totem!"
Hah, I wish.
