I believe everyone of us who do tradeskills have our own believes on how to tilt the RNG to your favor so you get faster skillups, more successes.
For me, I always do combines in stacks of 20 each time, I have a belief that success rates will fall as I do more combines.
Also, if I'm combining for skillups, I will stop for 5 minutes after every skillup to let the RNG "reset".
I used to keep the tradeskill books open while I do combines too
Of course, these doesn't actually work, but I'ld like to believe they do
