  • A list of all gems in Norrath?

I was hoping to avoid posting this question, as I assume the answer is somewhere right beneath my nose, but after almost an hour of using search and manually digging through the main site and these forums I’m unable to find what I’m looking for. What I eventually want is a list of all the gems in Norrath, at least all the ones that drop, and what the best price an NPC vendor will give me for them. I’d settle for the list of gems alone and I can fill in the prices as I sell the first of each type to an NPC. It would be extremely helpful for me to know the price so I can have some idea of what to sell gems for in the bazaar, or at least what not to sell gems for in the bazaar.

I can use the search feature to search for gems if I know there names, but I’ve yet to find a list of all the gems in one convenient location. Can anybody help me?

    hmm...

    magelo ?

I believe they have a fairly complete list of all inventory items. (searching it might be a pain)

EQCastersRealm has a nice "Jewelcrafting" tradeskill page which lists "best purchase" prices for storebought and rare (diamond, blue diamond, jacinth, black sapphire) gems.

Quest Gemtable is a listing of all the Velious gems drops that are used for quests. If you take each type (Black Marble) and quality (crushed, flawed, etc) you should come up with a complete list. (I have found that the non-quest gems tend to sell for 47 pp and change and the quest gems for 27 pp and change, but YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY and I have not extensively tested this theory.)
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

As far as basic jewelcraft gems go, hit the Jewelcraft recipe pages - the Quick Trivial List'd be a good source of gem names. Jewelcraft Supplies by Zone will list all sorts of vendor-bought and mob-dropped jewelcraft supplies, many of which will be gems. This doesn't begin to cover things like Velious quest gems, but it's a start...

what to sell gems for in the bazaar, or at least what not to sell gems for in the bazaar
...are two completely different things. The first one will be easy to compile. But if your goal is the second, well, that's another whole ballpark and dependent on a lot of other things (availability on your server, prices on your server, demand on your server, etc.).

Thanks for the replies. I guess I have some work ahead of me, which isn’t a problem but I didn’t want to reinvent the wheel if a list already existed someplace that I could simply copy and past into a Word document. I greatly appreciate the links and I’ll start making a list from what I find from them.

I apologize if my reference to the bazaar was somewhat ambiguous. What I meant was that I didn’t want to place a gem on my bazaar vendor for 50pp when I could have gotten 75pp from an NPC vendor. I could just sell gems to NPC vendors and forget about it, but I thought that it would be interesting to see what would happen if I place them on my vendor with say a 10% markup from what an NPC vendor would give me. They may not move at all, in which case I can always sell them to an NPC, but if they aren’t too expensive then someone who needs them for trade skills or a quest might be willing to buy them instead of waiting for a drop.

Check Gumkak's jewelcraft pages (google.com, search for Gumkak, hit I'm Feeling Lucky ) for a list of all gems that can be used in JC, along with vendor sell prices (sort of).

Your profit-making scheme won't yield much from any gems that are vendor-sold, which is everything up to Ruby, for this reason: With perfect (105+) CHA and an indifferent vendor, gemstones obey the 105% rule perfectly, which is to say:

Using a Peridot as an example, the 'true value' is 10pp. An NPC vendor will offer you 10pp/105% = 9.524pp for a peridot, and will sell that peridot for 10pp*105% = 10.5pp. So if you loot a peridot, your margin is always going to be pretty tight - the most you can offer them for sale at and expect people to buy is 10.499pp, which gives you a profit of only 0.975pp over what you could get by selling to NPC (which is quicker and easier).

Even with a Ruby ('true value' 125pp) your best profit is only ~13pp each. This is assuming you can get people to visit you rather than the NPC who has an infinite supply, of course!

            HOWEVER

You CAN make money from drop-only gems. NOT Diamonds, or Blue Diamonds, since these drop so frequently in PoP that they are usually to be found on NPC vendors. But the other two of the quartet of 'drop-only' gems, namely Jacinth and Black Sapphire. In the days when Sebilis, Hate, and Fear were pretty much the ONLY places where D/BD/J/BS dropped, all four used to drop pretty much equally. Nowadays however, PoP gem drops are ONLY D and BD, which leaves the rarely-hunted Sebilis/Hate/Fear etc as the only places to get Jacinth and Black Sapphire. Therefore if you come across these two - while hunting or even while merchant mining - it is WELL WORTH keeping them and putting them on a baz traders at a sizeable markup, since thay are now RARE.

I have no difficulty getting 500pp each for these two gems, I see them offered for even more and they seem to sell.

            Good luck!

Thank you Nichola for pointing out the flaw in my gem idea. I didn’t realize the profit margin was so small. I’ll just try to sell the Blue Diamonds, Black Sapphires and Jacinth and when I loot them and sell the rest to the vendors. But should anybody need a list of regular gems for any reason, I did manage to find a link that could prove helpful: http://www.eqtraders.com/articles/ar...=070070000000.

It's not uncommon to find Blue Diamonds on NPC vendors?! Wow. Given the number of people selling them in the Bazaar, I always just assumed they would never be on vendors. I'll be purchasing quite a few in the near future though, so this is great news. How much do vendors sell them for, assuming max charisma/faction, and in what zones would I be most likely to find vendors selling them? Hopefully you don't have to be flagged for anything to get to them!

                Thanks!

I’ve gotten into the habit of checking the item name any time I see a diamond graphic on a vendor. If it’s a blue diamond I’ll buy it. The best price I’ve found listed for buying a blue diamond from an NPC vendor is 262 plat, 5 gold. I place them on my vendor for 400pp and they have thus far sold, eventually. I’m not in a hurry to sell these, figuring that if I don’t sell them they are either a nest egg I can sell to a vendor for quick cash or they’re supplies should I need blue diamond for crafting. But the price is still dropping, at least on my server. I often see them for sale for 300pp.

The most likely, and most easily reached, vendors to search would be the vendors in Plane of Knowledge, Plane of Tranquility and the lighthouse in Gunthak.

I had originally started this thread in the hopes of making a small profit on a lot of different gems. But blue diamonds are, well, blue diamonds. It would be nice to make a bit of money for such a rare drop. Well, they’re a rare drop for me at any rate.

The Blue Diamond market has bottomed on Brell.
I use to make money off them finding them on vendors or players selling them to me.
Then I would sell in bazaar for 400 to 425.
Now they sell in bazaar for as little as 250.
I got stuck with 16 bah.
Some of which I payed 350 for.

                      Hello-

Ah Merkell - do not worry about 16 so much! I never put them on my merchant - instead - I would wait until I had a stack or more - and then /auc when I needed a plat boost in a hurry - and sell them that way. I currently have 3 stacks of them. LOL - but - even if its a 'loss' - I could sell them all for like 12K to a merchant.

Also - hold on there - there may be new uses for BD's in the next expansion that will make them desirable. Imagine if they were flagged as an item that you could augmet your gear with!

In any case - happy hunting and diving!

The folks I hang out with enjoy Old Sebilis (and other kunark dungeons) and I frequently volunteer for MasterLooting duty. I taped to my computer a list of vendor prices on the various gems and trinkets that drop there so that I can easily divvy up the loot at the end of the hunt. Makes my life infinitely easier: Grab my trusty calculator, figure the total amount in cash loot drops, then figure out how much for each person. If some are staying to hunt further I give them stackable gems, and give unstackables like Ruby Crowns (190p) and Sapphire Necklaces (166p) to the folks who are gating back to town. And make folks working on their trophies very happy by giving them a full set of trophy gems!

People don't miss Virtue so much when the druid passes out 500pp in gems and trinkets from what she looted Yeah we do miss the rezzes. Just don't die, I say!

EDIT: What I meant to say was, my list is not complete by any stretch. Just has the stuff that drops where I hunt. When we frequent a new zone, I add to my list. Still has fewer than 2 dozen gems on it.

I looted a Jacinth and a Black Sapphire hunting the Genoid Caves in Wakening Lands while camping my gems for the 8th Shawl. 1 of each in about 9 hours of camping.

Just thought I would mention that there is at least one other source for these gems than Seb/Fear/Hate.
