  • Any idea what I could possibly be doing wrong?

My wisdom is at 355, str/dex/agi/sta 305 (i know this isn't supposed to matter), but when smithing, from 188 to 220 (minus the 2 skill ups from making ethereal) I averaged 189 combines per skill up. Took me a month to get to 220 doing nothing but farming shadowscream components and combining them.

Now tailoring, I made myself 600 stacks of sacred tunare silk and started to make robes. Took me 159 combines to get me my first skill up, from 187 to 188. The next skill up took 182, and the next, a wopping 308.

What can i possibly be doing wrong? people around me are getting as many as 6 skill ups for 20 combines.

One thing that I did notice, as I went through my logs for the last 2 months, out of all the smithing and tailoring that I've been doing, I've only gotten 2 skill ups at night, all the rest of them were during the day.

I can only hope these runs have sucked all the bad luck out of the RNG for a little while.

Yikes. 30 smithing skillups averaging 189 combines per skillup is far beyond a merely streaky RNG.

I can think of no good reason why this would happen. I'll take a wild guess and speculate that your stats somehow result in a mathematical anomaly in the programmed skilllup formulae embedded in Everquest.

My only rationale is that I recall discussions a long time ago about similar cases with tradeskillers maxxed out at 255 wisdom or intelligence (before AA points made it possible to go higher). Some folks had unusually poor skillup rates. Speculation was that there was a bug when wisdom/intelligence was higher than 255 but was limited by the max.

I know that this is grasping at straws.

I'd suggest rearranging items or buffs to the point that your skillup determining stat (wisdom) is below maximum.

As an aside, I've got 4 tradeskills up to 250 with only 255 wisdom and have averaged a skillup every 20-30 combines from 188 skill onwards.

That is truly, and remarkably, the worst average for skill ups I've ever seen.
I'm doing tailoring right now, and I've probably averaged 1 skill up per 20-25 combines from 176 to 196.

However, the skill ups when I was doing smithing to get to 250 were much much harder at that level range. It was months for me to get from 242 to 250, I lost count of how many combines.

I'd honestly try taking some gear off, reduce the wisdom down to 280 maybe, and see how it goes.

my other 5 tradeskills are 250 and I didn't have much problems with those, about 20-30 per skill up average.

Easy answer to the question - "what did I do wrong?"

Simple ... you took up tradeskills.

Welcome to hell. Glad you could make it.

I am having a similar experience with tailoring...though it seems a recent development. It took me 20 combines or less per point to get to 198....then I took a week or so to collect for the latest round of combines. It took around 100 combines each for 199 and 200, and 182 for 201. Now, I'm sure part of this is the RNG in action, but I have to wonder if somthing has gone awry during all the push patching they've been doing lately...bugs have been creeping in ever since the initial set of patches for LDoN. For example: this morning a guildmate of mine found that his ER4 item was working on SLW cast from his ornate bp, but not on the cast version...instead of the other way around. Sounds small...and it is...but who knows what else might be floating around now. Anyway, back to the loom for me...
