Is Geerlok worth it? as a bard i plan on using dex song with drums in main hand. Without drums and just song i get about 70 to 80 dex from it -with drums i get about 150 dex from it - my question being would it be better to have 305 dex (with song and a small sham buff) and not use geerlok or would it be better to have about 250ish dex and use geerlok?

My pref for doing this would be to keep cost low as i dont feel like spending 90pct of my cash and use 100k

well since dex improve the chance of a skill up and a gearlock inproves the chance of a sucsess. Yes the gearlock is worth it. More sucsess=more stuff to sell back to the vender to lower total outlay.

I'll assume your refering to 202+ probably on bows. Before that I'd definitely go with the song since component costs are so low.

After that tho I'd go with gearlock. Up to 215 your looking at about 240pp per combine with a sell back of around 220 for a successful bow. So a fail costs you 240pp while a success only costs you 20. With that in mind you can get 11 addition combines for every success that the gearlock gets you that would have been a fail with out it. There's no direct way of knowing when the gearlock saves you or not but if your concerned about cost at all the gearlock is definitely the way to go.

If cost is no issue at all then the higher dex should give you a faster skill up rate.

Also I'm not even sure you'd really need your drum to max out dex if you do things right.

70 from focus
28 from diaku
20 from primal essence
Thats a total of about 190 dex meaning you only need about 115 from base stats and gear which shouldn't be too hard for most anyone to pull of especially with a "dex" outfit.
