  • A mistake by Sony that scouts can't use scout arrows?

I hope this post isn't too "ranty" for this section. If I considered it a rant I would have placed it in the primal scream board, but I think it has significant relevance here:

Has anyone else noticed that for wood elf cultural arrows, rogues are excluded from the list of classes that can use them? Even Shadowknights are included on the list, even though there are no wood elf SKs.

It seems especially odd that the "mithril scout arrows" (the non-blessed ones) can't be used by wood elf rogues. The rogue guild in Kelethin is called the "Scouts of Tunare".

I strongly suspect that this is not intended, but merely an oversight by Sony, since there is no game balance related reason that I can think of for this exclusion. I suggest that people use the in-game /feedback command to point this oversight out to them.

With planar mobs being immune to non-magic arrows, it seems unfair to exclude rogues from being able to hit mobs (even when using a planar bow) unless they get acrylia arrows which are very difficult to harvest components for, as we all know.

I believe summoned arrows also have a MAGIC tag, but of course they are NO RENT and can only be summoned by rangers and mages.

With the introduction of so many mobs in the high game that can't take damage from regular arrows, I'd like to see a low quality crafted MAGIC arrow (similar in stats to the summoned arrows) that can be made with less effort than the high-end mithril/acrylia. Perhaps the components could all be purchasable in PoK. It seems that without expending huge resources to get acrylia (or for non-rogues, mithril) arrows, the only people who can use a bow in the planes (and actually do a tiny bit of damage with it) is rangers with the endless quiver AA. It doesn't strike me as necessary to put such a choke on the MAGIC arrow supply when an easy supply of MAGIC arrows wouldn't change the fact that bows are still a very inefficient means of attack for non-rangers.

I've noticed and wondered why SOE hasn't made a correction yet. I do totally agree with you on the above.

That is very odd; I'd never noticed before. I can't think of any reason rogues ought not be able to use those arrows. I'd have to agree that it's most likely an oversight.

Cultural and acrylia aren't the only non-summoned, magic arrows, though. Silver tipped arrows, made with arrowheads that are available any standard fletching vendor, are also able to hit magical creatures. They're much easier and much less expensive to make than the acrylia ones.

Speaking as a Tunare-worshipping wood elf rogue and the one who made the first thunderbolt, this annoys me to no end. It's been a pet peeve of mine since the arrows came out. I've bugged, I've petitioned, I've posted to the Sony boards, all to no result. Every patch I keep hoping someone will catch up to this and fix it, and every patch I'm disappointed.

I still have a couple backpacks of components from when I skilled up, waiting for the day I can actually fire these arrows. I cannot describe my level of annoyance at this situation but I don't know what to do about it.

Yes, I know many SK's who worship Tunare *sarcasm off*
I just keep doing feedback, one after every patch *shrug*

I was completely unaware that silver-tipped arrows could hit magic creatures. Thanks for that info! Going to switch my backpack of components to that tonight and try it.

I certainly agree that rogues, espeicially the Wood Elf variety should be able to use these arrows.

              Side note:

Everquest hasn't been consistent with the term scout for Wood Elves. Wood Elf Rogues have a guild hall called Scouts of Tunare, Rangers are Faydarks Champions, Warriors are Emerald Warriors, and Druids are Soldiers of Tunare (I think I got those right). Yet the wood elf cultural armor for Rangers is called Tunarean Scout Armor and not usable by rogues either. It also seems it should be chainmail, but made with tailoring skill, but that's a different issue.

                Don't be too shocked Exidor.

Erudite Steelsilk and Steelweave armor is tailored but is Plate armor for the SK/Paladin/Cleric members of that race.

The Tunarean Scout armor should have been Rogue armor or at least Rogue/Ranger instead of just Ranger.

There is one more glaring issue with the Bows.
Imbuing for Tunare requires an Emerald that's imbued by a Cleric/Druid who follow Tunare. The Bows are restricted to Tunare followers without requiring an Imbued Emerald while every other item that's tradeskill made and restricted to Tunare requires the Imbued Emerald.
                Why?
