  • New fletcher / EQer, at 82 and need advice

I'm new to EQ, been playing about 3 weeks. Been using this site a lot, but only recently began reading the fletching forum.

My ranger is at lvl 14, got my fletching up to 82. At this point training becomes really expensive.

OK, here's the noob question: How do you guys get so much money? I see people throwing around 300pp like it's nothing. I'm lucky to collect 30pp in maybe 4 hours playing time. Also I heard someone mention in a post that they didn't lvl their character at all they just built up fletching to 200 & they were like low lvl character. Seems like there's tricks to getting lots of money that i haven't figured out yet. (my favorite money maker is killing wisps & looting their Greater Lightstones, 3+pp). Teach me your money making tricks!

On the subject of DEX & WIS, I'm concerned that I didn't roll my character enough at creation. My DEX & WIS is both 75, am I screwed for fletching with this character?

You remind me of me back when....at least the no money part and the low dex. Levels will fix both of those eventually, with the places you can hunt in when you are bigger providing the cash and the bazaar providing the dex gear, and a place to find friendly shamans with lovely dex buffs.
For a low level character to get cash I can recommend hunting spiders and selling the silks in the bazaar. Where you hunt the spiders will depend on your current level, but spider silks and zombie skins sell fairly fast at 5plat per each on my server. Although I am sure the tailors and potters don't care for the price, it is one of the more reliable cash sources for fletching.
As for the price of fletching, don't look now, but it only gets worse later. My fletching is 217, currently, and I usually try to hunt the acrylia for acrylia arrows rather than buy it. =)
Take it slow and steady, because if you are in a hurry the RNG for fletching skillups will drive you mad.
And 300pp is still a lot of money to me.LOL

I don't know what type of ranger you are, but here is a little trick for money (not any exp in it, but cash is what you are after). Go to Butcherblock Mountains. Kill skunks and the green goblins. Skunks (level 2) can drop pristine skunk claws that sell for 4+pp each and are stackable. Green Goblins (called a goblin, level 4 - 8 iirc) can drop Green Goblin Head that sells for 4+pp but is not stackable and/or Green Goblin Blood that sells for 4+pp and is stackable. 1 hour doing that will net you about 100pp or more. I usually set up camp at the goblin tents between Dagnor's and the Crossroads. The Aqua Goblin camp drops were monetarily adjusted (see: nerfed) so they do not sell back well.

Good item to sell in the bazaar: spiderling silks, spider silks, zombie skins. 5-8p each is a good range on my server (Quellious). Bone chips sell for about 1pp each in the bazaar. If you can get a couple of stacks together they will sell better than 1 or 2 items at a time

In addition, when you get forage, there are a number of items that sell well. From Greater Faydark, morning dew can sell for a LOT. cinnimon stick will sell well also.

I actually buy all of the above from NPC merchants and resale to other players.

If you don't have Luclin, or don't want to sell in the bazaar, your server probably has an auction channel. (/join auction). People use it to buy and sell stuff across zones.

          Good stuff, thanks guys!

Just got my ranger up to lvl 15 last night & i'm ready to find a new area ... I'll check out those areas you guys listed. I've never used the Bazaar but I hear players talk about it all of the time ... going to have to track that place down!

As far as Goblins, Skunks, Spidering Silk, etc. I haven't seen any of it yet. Looks like once I explore a little more I can pick up my income a bit & get that fletching skill up!

The reason people throw lots of plat around is because they have high level alternates that are rich (ie level 65 enchanters, druids).

When you can afford it, get some charisma gear for buying/selling. It will pay for itself in the long run. A good item is an opal encrusted stein. You can use 2, and they each give you +25 to your charisma when equiped. To guarantee best prices from vendors you want to shoot for a 130 charisma when buying/selling. And since these steins are a skillup path for potters in the low 200s, they usually don't cost a ton to buy if you keep on the lookout in the bazaar. Also, turn in those greater lightstones to the gypsies in North Karana or Oasis for the quest. Get experience and an item you can sell for 9p at good charisma rather than 3p each for the stones.

I feel your pain. I remember when I was a lowly ranger, it took me forever to train my fletching up due to funds. Be patient and you'll get there eventually.

Thanks, good advice Ixiola. I noticed you had multiple skills over 200 ... I thought you could only have 1 skill over 200?

Val what server are you playing on?

EDIT: As for myself, i reached 128 yesterday and hell it cost a lot, cost about 20 plats for 4 stacks of each parts ( one being the trivial and the others are basics) What i did for the money ( i play on Stromm) is going in Crushbone and Greater Faydark , leveled there and foraged cinnamon sticks and morning dew, they sell quite a lot on Stromm. Then in crushbone meanwhile i gathered orc scalps (2.5 GP each) and crushbone belts ( 4 GP each) i made a small fortune out of those wich got me my first 50 plat. Then i told myself that i could possibly not raise my fletching fast enough for the raising price so i started Merchant hunting ( see guide ) and buying goods and selling them back a lil bit higher ( made a HUGE profit with this) Right now when i need money i usually log at 3 in the morning EST and go in Shadeweaver thicket ( im level 28 ) , hunt the shak dratha for Shade silk and Chunk of condensed shadow , then go over to the lesser shades and hunt Swirling Shadows then i finish with saurek hoppers ( HQ hopper hide anyone? ) wich sells for a whooping 10p each. Despite their rareness on them i usually found about 4-5 HQ fpr every 20-25 hoppers i kills, and it takes me no more than 15 seconds to kill one, wich overtime = a lot of plats.
I hope my tips help ya. Good hunting!
