  • New recipes, information

Hello. I looked around, but couldn't find an updated recipe list. I've been out of EQ for a while and recently decided to continue my fletching I'd let sit for over a year.

I also couldn't find a good guide that said "here is a good way to get your skill up" Currently I'm 92 skill and just maxxed out on the arrows I was making.

Is there a good guide that says "Make these from skill blah to blah" or perhaps a trivial chart (didn't see one on the site for bowying/fletching) which I missed? I used the one on the main page, but the trivial for ceramic shafts is listed at 135 and I'm getting the "skill cannot be improved" using field point, ceramic, parabolic and small groove in combines.

I'm also interested in the recipes, such as can I use the owlbear beaks or Cockatrice beaks for special arrows?

I'm new here, so please be gentle if I've overlooked something.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to EQ Traders.

Under the Links section is a link to Aeolina's Fletching Guide.

The one here can be confusing. But, the way it works is: Only the single most difficult component matters when making arrows for skill.

Thus, if one of the items is now "trivial" and you're combining with other "trivial" items, you will get no skill increases.

I remember going through that guide when I started and got very confused very quickly. Once I sorted it out, it was a great help though. To avoid that confusion, here is (what I feel is) a simpler chart.
"Cost @" is the cost per combine in the best possible circumstances.
"Cost /20" is the cost to do 20 combines or a "stack" rather than the cost to MAKE a stack of arrows (20 times the "Cost @" price).
All prices are listed in copper pieces.
Except where noted, all recipes yield 5 arrows per successful combine.
Also, the ". . " stuff is simply for place holding in the columns; the board ignores multiple spaces without any characters in them and this was the only way I could figure out to get the spacing even close to right.

      Triv | Point .. . + Shaft .. + Fletch . . . . . . + Nock . . . . . . . . . |Cost @ . Cost /20

      16 . | Field .. . + Wood .. + Round Cut . . . + Large Groove .. | . 20 . . . . . 400
      36 . | Field .. . + Wood .. + Round Cut . . . + Medium Groove | . 31 . . . . . 620
      46 . | Field .. . + Wood .. + Parabolic Cut . + Large Groove .. | . 41 . . . . . 820
      56 . | Field .. . + Wood .. + Round Cut . . . + Small Groove . . | . 57 . . . . . 1140
      68 . | Field .. . + Bone . . + Round Cut . .. . + Large Groove . | . 94 . . . . . 1880
      82 . | Field .. . + Wood .. + Shield Cut . . . + Large Groove .. | . 204 . . . . 4080
      102 | Hooked + Wood .. + Round Cut . . . + Large Groove .. | . 330 . . . . 6600
      122 | Field .. . + Wood .. + Wooden Vane + Large Groove .. | . 697 . . . . 13940
      135 | Field .. . + Ceramic + Round Cut . . . + Large Groove .. | . 1170 . . . 23400
      162 | Field .. . + Wood .. + Bone Vane . . . + Large Groove .. | . 1380 . . . 27600
      182 | Silver . . + Wood .. + Round Cut . . . + Large Groove .. | . 4005 . . . 80100*
      202 | Field .. . + Wood .. + Ceramic Vane .+ Large Groove .. | . 2797 . . . 55940**
      202 | Field .. . + Steel . . + Round Cut . .. . + Large Groove .. | . 2850 . . . 57000**

*Aeolina's Fletching Guide leaves out this step and I do not agree with the reason. Yes, the cost is more for the tips, a LOT more. BUT, every success gives you 2 times the number of arrows to sell back. Unlike the other combines, this one will yield 10 arrows rather than 5. Because of this, you should actually loose LESS money going from 162 - 182 with Silver Tipped than you would going 162 - 182 with Ceramic Vanes.

**I don't know what the merchant buy back price is now for these two. So, you might want to do Ceramic Vanes for part of it and Steel Shafts for part of it or all of one or the other depending on buy back price. (The thought behind splitting it up is that the more expensive material might have a smaller net lose but only after you reach a point were you have enough successes per stack of attempts to make it work for you.)
