  • Additional Fletching Terminology Help

    Hi all!

Guildie suggested I start using this site after I made 203 in fletching. I must say thanks for all the great information shared here.

Maybe this is stupid, but I cannot find a definition for "geerlock". What is it and how do I get it? Seems to make a difference for people who, like myself, want to make that push to 250.

Thanks in advance for not blowing me off the board for asking the obvious to some, and for your assistance.

    All the best,
    Avent Grimbrother

A geerlock is a gnomish tinkered devise (I.E. player made) that helps to boost your apparent skill. There are geerlocks for all the “base” trade skills (I don’t think there is one for fishing, tinkering, or alchemy; I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong). All the geerlocks add 5% to you apparent skill. So, with a skill of 203 AND a geerlock, combines will be tested for success against a 213 skill level. It’s possible to buy most any geerlock at most any time by finding a friendly gnome merchant in the Bazaar and, depending on your sever, they seem to run about 150-200 plat each (less than you’d spend on ONE unsuccessful darkwood bow combine). If you are going to go the route of bows to get your skill up, you might even be able to make a deal with the geerlock merchant to buy cams in bulk.

With LoY they added several geerlocks. They added alchemy, tinkering and research ones off hand.

Usually there are several of each type for sale in the bazaar altho i think the actual ingame name is geerloc. Just do a search for geerlo and you should get a list of em.

          hmm

Do tinkered fishing poles count as geerloks? they do modify skill...

and as well as geerloks for alchemy and research, there is also one for poison .

            Thanks!

Such sage advice... maybe they should add a title for those who acheive trade skills of 200 in more than one area... like Sage... or Newbie helper...

            Thanks for all the help!

I do have to give you some warning though; getting into the subject of what is a TRUE Grand Master and geerlocks is a very touchy subject and in HOT debate with some people. The source of it is that with a geerlock you only need to get your skill level to 238 for it to be effectively 250. One side (the lock lovers) argue that if they can do anything someone with a 250 skill can, then they should be called GM's. The other side (the lock pickers) Say that its an achievement thing and that the unmodified skill is what counts. They also argue that we don't know of there is a benefit to using a geerlock AND being 250 on the items that trivial out above 250. Since there is a veil over that portion and it's VERY expensive to do the thousands of tests that it would take it's not likely to be answered soon.

And yes, this WAS all about finding a way to get that pun in there. Thank you very much.
