  • Dex vs Wis/Int for skill up

My first post, so Hello everybody

Myself and a Guildie did a little experimenting last night on The Nameless, to test the dex vs Wis for skill up thing.

Basically 50 combines of Compound Darkwood Bows with 249 wis got me 3 skill ups, from 223 to 226, and 50 combines with 255 dex only netted 1 skill up to 227. In both cases I lowered the opposing stat, with wis up dex was 75, and with dex up wis was 102.

100 combines is hardly definitive testing I realise, but I thought I would share this, and see if anybody else has done similar testing to back this up, or blow it out of the water.

Another pet theory I have is that Verant want us to buy the points, as a Woodie I am also making Mithril Champion Arrows to try and get to 250, and the skill ups seem to come more slowly, seems to work out at a bit over 1k per point with 135+ Cha, and doing bows seems to tick over at a similar cost.

Any advice on gaining skill would be most welcome, the BFT fails are expensive :?

I have also tried something similar. I did over 100 combines on a combination of Darkwood bows and acrylia arrows with dex near 255, no skill increases. Another 100+ combines of the same with wis at or near 240, same story. Does the RNG hate me? Should I stick with wis or go for dex? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you have a big enough sample to make any definite conclusions, especially when dealing with such high skill levels.

A better test would be to take a new character and use cheap arrows to go from say 1 to 150 or something. Do it with int or wisdom with one character, and with dex with a different character.

DEX or WIS or INT, theoretically shouldn't matter

Theoretically, any of these stats being increased should provide you with the same chance to skill up. Whether or not you actually did is entirely up to the vagaries of the much-despised RNG.

I find I have more with Dex, but I think that's b/c I'm able to get my dex higher than my wis

I am currently 237 in fletching and have been testing the dex vs. wis from day one. I have concluded that the best course of action is to just get every stat as high as you possibly can before doing any critical combines. I could not really tell a difference in skill ups between wis or dex. Good luck

This may be a little off topic but...

I created a High Elf Cleric and my friend created a High Elf Enchanter. We both did smithing. He did roughly 300 fewer combines than I did and his skill got to 191 and mine to 188. His INT is in the same range as my WIS. I am not sure about DEX.

I have an Erudite Wizard and my friend has a Wood Elf Druid. We both have 255 in our respective main attributes. My tailoring skill ups happen significantly more often than his do. I believe his DEX is much higher than mine (mine is a paultry 86).

I realize these are only 2 cases, but the findings have merit. We are both convinced that INT weighs more heavily than WIS. Is this just luck that has been consistant with INT characters?
