  • Ok I am new to this and have one question

OK I have read a lot of info and have one simple question about bow and arrow ranges. How do they work together? Do they add together, go by the lowest range, or go by the longest range?

Sorry for the newb question, but I have only been playing for 2 weeks lol

This site has been a great help to answer all of my other Trade Skill questions.

    Thanks for your help

They add together. Note that this has an unintended consequence that is arguably an exploit, and definitely inconvenient when pulling -- if the range total is high enough, you will find that your pulling distance is greater then the mob's follow distance. In other words, when you get into range to shoot it for pulling purposes, it is far enough away that it won't follow you. You need to keep moving forward till you see the mob twitch at that point before returning to your group.

So THAT'S why I look like a total idiot sometimes when I announce an incoming and nothing shows up. Nothing more embarrassing than a Ranger asking where the her target went.... <Blush>

        Thank you.

This is somewhat more common in Kunark than in the newer areas btw. Given today's bow and arrow technology and ranges, you can easily tag something in LoIO from farther than it will chase you.

One, this is not an exploit. Two, this is a good thing! with a good bow and good arrows it it possible to have a range >400. When you get to a point where you get double damge form bow shots it is possible to stand outside aggro range and kill stuff with enough arrows. The range possible is also outside of any casters max range so if you happen to be pulling a caster type mob it can save you some grief. Another benifit is you can shoot on the run, so if you are racing another kiting class to a mob you don't have to stop to tag it, and can normally pull it before the casters can.

actually, standing way outside of chase range and killing something with a super longrange bow like that IS an exploit, VI anounced it as such, and even made a recent patch change to try to prevent it.

It's a shame of the game that such a mirroring of the world is considered an exploit - IRL this would be a rangers, and most archers preferred way to kill: At distance and virtually silently... leaving the foe to wonder why death rained upon them.

In RL you wouldnt have to pulg something with 150-200 arrows to get it to drop.

Sigh...I wish I was old enough and a good enough shot to use the leet skills. Never mind back to the workshop, maybe I'll go hunting after this bows finished, or those arrows, or........
